OF SATELLITE CAPACITY
The Space Communications company is short of satellites to guarantee
SPAIN
REGULATOR SUSPENDS TELEFONICA’S TRIPLE-PLAY
The Spanish Telecommunications Market Commission (CMT)
has temporarily suspended Telefónica from providing commercial
services, including IPTV and Internet access, over its new fibre-tothe-home
(FTTH) network, following a complaint lodged by Orange
España. Orange España claims that Telefónica has not finalised
wholesale access terms for the network infrastructure, and the
CMT determined that services may only be launched on the new
network once it is satisfied that agreements with alternative providers
have been reached for access to the network. Telefónica
recently launched trials on the network in Madrid and Barcelona to
test Internet access at 30 Mbps, as part of a triple-play offer that
includes its IPTV service Imagenio. Telefónica is thought to have
planned to reach more than 1,000 FTTH clients by the end of 2009.
