SYSTEM OPERATION
• An EasiCheck interface module is fitted into all suitable
dedicated emergency luminaires and mains luminaires
converted for emergency operation
• Each module is given a unique address number, using a hand
held programmer
• Every luminaire is then connected to a 2 core data BUS cable,
which is linked back to the control panel. A single panel can
accommodate up to 250 luminaires (self contained systems) or
255 luminaires and addressable devices (central power
systems)
• When switched on, the panel will self learn the number of
luminaires connected to it
• Text information can be allocated to each system component,
including central battery units and changeover devices etc for
central power system versions, during commissioning by a
Cooper Lighting and Security service engineer
• The panel can then be programmed to carry out automatic test
sequences according to BS5266 or EN50172. Testing can
also be initiated manually. All test data is sent back and stored
at the control panel. Additionally, the system carries out
continuous real time monitoring of all connected devices
• Central battery unit status is constantly monitored on central
power systems version. Multiple CBU's can be controlled by a
single panel
• In the event of a fault, the precise location of the device is
displayed at the control panel along with accurate details of
the nature of the fault and an alarm is raised
• Luminaire status is provided locally via a 2 colour LED built into
each fitting
• A printer can be connected, which automatically prints details
of any system events as soon as they occur
• The system can be enhanced by networking up to 63 panels.
Central PC monitoring and a global network printer can also
be incorporated. An advanced colour graphics software
package is available to provide central and remote system
control and monitoring
PANEL
Constructed from flame retardant polycarbonate. 2 line x 40
character LCD display and soft touch 5 button keypad. A single
panel can accommodate up to 250 luminaires or interfaces.
TEST PROGRAMMES
EasiCheck provides automatic testing that conforms and exceeds the current British Standard BS5266 Part 1 (1999) and the European
Standard EN50172. Other test regimes can also be programmed as required.
Full duration discharge test
Note: The Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997 and EN50172 omit the six monthly 1 hour test, replacing it with an annual full duration discharge test after the first year and every year thereafter
It is recommended that discharge tests are performed at a time of
least risk, such as outside normal working hours, so that following
the test the batteries can be re-charged prior to re-occupation. This
can be difficult in permanently occupied premises. To overcome
this, EasiCheck luminaires can be allocated into 1 of up to 16
test groups and the testing of each group staggered. Adjacent
luminaires would be allocated to different groups in order to
provide full duration emergency lighting coverage at all times.
Following a genuine mains failure that has occurred in the previous
24 hours, the next scheduled test is automatically delayed for a
further 24 hours, to allow sufficient time for the batteries to
recharge. Manual tests are also inhibited for 24 hours following a
genuine mains failure or scheduled test. All test results can be
downloaded to an optional printer.
SYSTEM DESIGN & INSTALLATION
• Determine the number and type of EasiCheck compatible
emergency luminaires to be used, using the spacing charts at
the rear of this catalogue
• Specify the luminaires to be complete with EasiCheck
addressable interface modules
• Locate the control panel in a suitable clean, dry environment,
such as a maintenance office
• Address all luminaires and interface devices as applicable
using the hand held programmer
• Connect data BUS cable. Cable must be 2 core screened or
twisted pair, typically 1.0 - 2.5mm2 depending on volt drop
limitations. Contact Technical Support for full details of the
required cable specification. Polarity must be maintained
throughout.
• Circuit configuration for data cable can be a ring, radial or
a preferred combination of a ring with multiple radial spurs
Optional
Isolator
• Short circuit isolators are incorporated into the panel as
standard. Further isolators can be added to the circuit,
if required, to minimise loss of communication due to a
short circuit and make fault finding easier. Note: Loss of
communication does NOT affect the integrity of the emergency
luminaire operation
• The panel is set to auto learn the devices connected to it.
The panel can then be commissioned by Cooper Lighting
and Security, using a PC to download address, group, type of
luminaire, number of cells, duration, descriptive address text
and test times
• The panel can be used to adjust test times, initiate manual tests,
display luminaire voltage and current and print out event logs or
test results
