SWEET BREAD (3 DAys)
History states that the French occupation
in the early 1800s introduced Mexico to
the French bread. Then after “Cinco de
Mayo,” the love for this bread remained.
Mexican bakers quickly adopted the
French techniques to make their own varieties,
with ingredients like blanched almonds,
raisins, pine nuts, candied peel,
and aniseed. The term pan dulce means
"sweet bread" in Spanish and is similar to
its ancestor, the Italian Panettone. Shapes
include seashell, horns or rounds. Now
a favorite in Mexican households, these
sweet breads go well with coffee or hot
chocolate. Min 10 Max 12
COOKING FOR EVERYONE:
THE NEW FAST FOOD
The modern pressure cooker is fast, quiet
dollar for each person who told me that
they are afraid of the pressure cooker, I
could retire. Instead, I’m going to keep
teaching because once people learn to use
a pressure cooker, they find that it changes
their life.” So come learn how to use a pressure
Spotlight on Cooking Instructor
Jill Nussinow
Jill Nussinow calls herself “The
Veggie Queen” and for very good
reasons! With more than 25 years
teaching cooking, a Masters Degree
in Nutrition and teaching at Santa
Rosa Junior College in the culinary
department for 20+ years, Jill has
definitely earned that title.
Jill started teaching cooking because
she found that it was much easier to
teach people about nutrition through
food than any other way. Her philosophy
is that everyone needs to
eat, but not everyone understands
nutrients. So to help with the education
process, Jill lures people in with
fresh and tasty food that they themselves
can easily prepare.
Jill’s goal is to show you how be, and stay, nourished in a tasty way! Through her
workshops she teaches you how and why eating what’s fresh and in-season makes
a difference in your life and in your health. Jill enjoys the Finley Community
Center for its great staff and the teaching kitchen makes it easy to have fun with
her students.
BEGINNING uKuLELE
(Age 12+) 10 weeks
The Hawaiian word for ukulele is kanikapila,
which loosely translates as “to gather together,
play music and enjoy yourself.” And
the late George Harrison, a self-professed
uke-o-holic, once said “Everyone I know
who is into the ukulele is crackers.” Both
are examples of how this light, portable
instrument brings smiles to those who hear
its beautiful melodies. Basic chords, strums
and lyrics are introduced as you “play by
ear.” Bring a four stringed ukulele and get
ready to create great summer fun!
WHAT WERE YOu BORN TO DO? (Age 16+) 1 DAy
You were born to make a unique contribution to humanity. Progressing toward this purpose brings joy and abundance. Straying
from this path causes stress and emptiness. To accomplish this purpose, one of the 33 Natural Talents is wired into your DNA. It
is so subtle, you rarely notice it; yet so powerful, it’s the source of your highest potential. Expressing your Natural Talent ignites
passion- relentlessly pursuing it evolves into your destiny. Elvis, Oprah and Einstein were all just “doing what came naturally”.
Discover your Natural Talent, how to apply it to all aspects of life, and why it is the source of everything you desire. A materials
CHINESE MEDICAL QIGONG
(Age 18+) 4 weeks
Experience the self-care exercises and
life-nurturing arts of ancient China, a
5,000 year old Chinese healing system for
health, physical fitness, and prevention of
disease. These mind-body exercises integrate
body, breath and mind into one state,
called the Qigong State of Mind, which
function to purify, gather, circulate, store,
and transform Qi. Our practices follow the
seasons throughout the year, adjusting the
exercises according to the energies of the
seasons, and lead you to deep meditation,
traditionally called tranquil sitting. Qigong
is beneficial for all ages and health conditions,
including martial arts students as a
way of developing inner strength. Min 10
CHINESE MEDICAL QIGONG with
Michael Rinaldini
Michael Rinaldini has been actively
involved in Qigong for 15 years and
in total, 30 years in related practices,
meditation, acupressure massage,
spiritual practices in Christianity to
Buddhism to Daoism and the creative
arts. He is certified at the highest
level: Level 4 Qigong Teacher by the
National Qigong Association, holds a
M.A. in Art Therapy, M.F.A. in Fine
art Photography along with certification
as a CMT. Michael has also created
a 100 hour Qigong certification
course for students who want to go
deeper in their Qigong studies and
practices.
Michael got started in medical Qigong
to address his own health issues then
went on to study it more broadly so he
could teach it to others. He feels that
Qigong has numerous health benefits and that there are no health problems which
are not helped by a regular daily practice of Qigong. The more you practice, the
greater the health benefits!
WILDERNESS FIRST AID
(Age 12+) 1 DAy
No one sets off on an outdoor adventure expecting a medical problem to occur.
However, a potentially hostile environment and lack of facilities can quickly cause a
routine situation to escalate into a real medical emergency. There is no substitute for
preparedness. Everyone venturing into the wilds should have an understanding of basic
first aid and wilderness rescue. Do you know how to handle a sprained ankle or how
to properly splint a broken bone? Would you know what to do if a camper fell into a
fire? Do you know what percentage of rattlesnake bites are dry bites (no venom), and
how to tell the difference? If not, this informative, interactive, and fun workshop is
perfect for the experienced backpacker as well as family day hikers. Note: Standard
First Aid is required as a prerequisite. Min 8 Max 20
A moderate 5.5 mile nature adventure. Cameras
are a must. Lush fern lined trails thru twisted
