Formula DRIFT Singapore
Drifting is a high-skill, high-powered motor sport that calls for
drivers to control a 200hp to 600hp car while it slides
sideways at high speed through a marked course. It is done
on a closed course and judged on execution and style rather
than who finishes the course fastest. Drifting takes all the
thrilling moments of traditional motorsports and packs it
together into a non-stop competition. Featured in the
Hollywood blockbuster 'The Fast and the Furious 3 –
The Tokyo Drift' the sport was given a great boost in profile.
Drift is the first and only sanctioned and recognized
North American professional championship drifting series.
Formula DRIFT Singapore is the circuit's very first
championship to take place outside of North America.
Over 38 drivers from Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong,
New Zealand, Thailand and USA were in Singapore to
compete for the Formula DRIFT Singapore title in April 2008.
The objective of Formula DRIFT Singapore is to transform
the motor sport of drifting into a truly global mainstay.
This milestone event was unveiled on Sunday, 27 April 2008.
Vodafone McLaren Mercedes F1 Car ‘Live in
Action’ brought to you by Johnnie Walker
The event was attended by two-time F1 world champion
Mika Hakkinen, Responsible Drinking Ambassador for
Johnnie Walker, who launched the campaign in Asia Pacific
by signing a pact to never to drink and drive.
Johnnie Walker was looking for a platform to launch their
"Join The Pact" campaign in Asia Pacific by leveraging on
their sponsorship for the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes F1 car
and Mika Hakkinen who is their Responsible Drinking
Ambassador. Johnnie Walker flew down Mika Hakkinen and
the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes F1 car to be part of this
event. Hakkinen performed a series of stunts in an actual
Vodafone McLaren Mercedes F1 car at the Padang to
demonstrate the importance of never drinking when you're
behind the wheel.
