The Gembrook Market Sausage Sizzle is a great fundraiser for the school. Come
and get to know other members of our school community whilst raising much
needed funds. Volunteers are urgently needed. If you can spare an hour or two on Sunday
morning please put your name on the sign up sheet at the office. Many thanks!

A word from the Principal
Family Picnic
The giant coloured ball was rolling around the playground at
the family picnic last Thursday evening to the delight of
many of our girls and boys. The weather was kind and we
were able to go ahead and gather together in the Circle of
Harmony for a picnic before the giant parachute was unfurled.
Thank you to

along and join in the
fun.
House Athletics Carnival
We had a fabulous day at the House Sports last week. It was
wonderful to see our students having a go at each of the
events and doing their best! Thank you to our parents and
teachers for working together to ensure that the day was
such a success. Thank you also to Cameron Morgan, our PE
teacher, who organised such a great day. The weather was
perfect! Congratulations to all our House Teams - Tynong,
Redwood, Beenak and Kirth Kiln. Well done to Kirth Kiln
who won the shield this year!
EDEC Athletics Carnival
Well done to all our young athletes who participated in a
range of events with our EDEC friends at the annual sports
event yesterday. Thank you once again to our great team of
parents who were able to come along to cheer and assist the
students and teachers on the day. Thank you to Mr Morgan
for organising this event.
Better Buddies Day
Our prep students spent the day with their Buddies on Monday
doing a variety of activities as part of the Better Buddies
program. Better Buddies, an initiative of the Alannah and
Madeline Foundation, helps students entering their first
year of primary school to feel safe, valued and connected to
the school community. Each prep child went home with a
small purple ‘Buddie Bear’ as a memento of the day. Prep
and year 6 buddies will continue to do activities together
throughout the year.
Congratulations to our FANTASTIC swimmers
Dana, Frankie, Lachlan, Ella, Shae, Lynton, Ryan and Kira
who participated in the Eastern Regional championships
last Friday.
School Council Meeting
The Annual General Meeting of the School Council will be
held this evening at 7:00pm. At this meeting the officer
bearers will be elected and the Annual Report to the community
will be presented. All community members are invited
to attend. The March meeting will follow. The Annual
Report will be available on the school website.
HPV ( Human Powered Vehicles) Wonthaggi Event
Two teams of students will participate in the HPV event at
Wonthaggi next weekend. This is a team event with students,
parents and teachers working together. The teams are
well prepared and have trained on the weekends at Emerald
Secondary College and at school during the week. Thank you
to Mr Fraser and Mrs Alsop for their organisation and commitment
to the program. The carts are set. We wish everyone
the best of luck for a great time.
Gembrook Market
The school has the sausage sizzle stall at the market next
Sunday. More help is needed on the day, so if you are able to
assist please put your name down for an hour or two on the
roster at the school office. Funds raised this year will be
used for more seating around the school.
Puffing Billy
Puffing Billy will leave Gembrook Station at 10:00am on
Monday 26 March for the whole school excursion to Emerald
Lake Park. I invite all families to join us. Bring a picnic
– enjoy the day.
Working Bee: Thank you to the following magnificent
families who were able to come along to the working bee
on Saturday: Hyatts, Milnes, Murugans, Billings, Halls,
Fishers, McKenzies and Ann Hoff. Thank you to our wonderful
PFA for the delicious morning tea. We were able to
clean the multi floor, remove a number of dead trees in the
school ground, prepare the vegetable garden for planting
and plant a few more shrubs.

that all volunteers are required to have a current Working with Children Check.
The school is currently updating the list of volunteers in the school who have a Working with Children Check. Please
bring your Working with Children Check card to the school office so we can update our list of volunteers.
The check is free for volunteers. Forms for the Working with Children Check are available from the school office.

Run, Run, Run E.D.E.C. Athletics
Day Everyone Run, Run!
Yesterday Tuesday the 20-3-12 most
of the grades 3-6’s went to the
E.D.E.C. ATHLETICS! In the end
Gembrook came fifth out of six different
schools. Chloe Goodie and Matt
Frazzetto ran in the Championships at
the very end! Chloe won her race and
got a gold medal! Everyone had a
great day. It was really
fun!!!

Congratulations to the students from grades 3-6 who
participated in the EDEC Athletics Carnival. It was a
fantastic day for everyone, with many of our athletes placing
well in their events. A special congratulation goes to
Chloe Goodie for winning the Girls Championship race.
Well Done!
Gembrook Primary School is now looking forward to the
Junior Learning Centre Sports Day, which will be happening
next Wednesday 28 th March.

Baker Sends Crowd WILD!!!
The crowd went WILD as Talisha Baker set
a new world record with the jump of 26 meters
in the high jump event at the G.P.S
House Athletics last week! “Well I just
sprinted and my legs well… BOOSTED”!
Baker said. Ella Gerencser, (who placed
2 nd ) is devastated by the results! “Revenge
is upon us”, Gerencser said! Baker is looking
forward to E.D.E.C next week, and
hopes to continue her winning streak!

My name is Kaitlyn Carter; I am the new supervisor of Gembrook After School Care. I am currently
studying primary school teaching at Deakin University. The Gembrook After School Care program
provides children with the opportunity to participate in art and craft, board games and outdoor
activities. Children can enjoy creative play and construction activities using Knex and Mobilo. Afternoon
tea is provided and we actively promote cooking within the program.
Gembrook After School Care is provided by the Cardinia Shire Council. We welcome new children to
our program; enrolments forms are available at the Cardinia shire web site www.cardinia.vic.gov.au

Beautification of Gembrook
The Gembrook Township Committee (GTC) would
like to get your ideas / involvement in building on
the community pride that already exists in Gembrook.
Specific aims include reducing litter and
promoting care and beautification of the town
and surrounding areas.

Calling all animal lovers!
