Notes From the Activities Chair One of my duties as the 2010 CCCR Activities Chair is not only to set up one or more Porsche-related events for each month in year 2010, but also to schedule events for the first three months of the following year. Having now accomplished that (mostly), I am happy to report that we are again going to enjoy the hospitality of both Parkfield (January 23rd) AND Pozo (February13th), and, in March (date TBD), we’ll have a rally (sort of--see below), ending in a brand new (for us) winery for tasting and pigging out. In the meantime, we have a New Member BBQ (which is free [FREE!] for ALL members) coming up this month -- if you haven’t already signed up, what the heck are you waiting for--it’s FREE!--and, of course, our annual holiday party in December. I urge all of you out there to check the dates (see the calendar on Page 6, and SIGN UP. Unfortunately, the holiday party is not an open date for me and Dalna, as this is the date of our annual SLO Vocal Arts Ensemble Christmas concert, which we have been rehearsing for since September. Oh,well--can’tmake‘emall,muchaswe’dliketo. Speaking of rallyes (there’s that dreaded word again), permit me to expound on that idea a little (there he goes again--won’t he ever learn?). OK--let’s start out by saying that rallying as it is (sometimes mistakenly) thought of is a tough, grueling event, marked by sometimes indecipherable instructions, requiring strict adherence to time and distance, and frequently engendering marriagethreatening disagreements between driver and navigator. NOT ON MY WATCH! Rallyes can be great fun, if they’re not of the Time-Speed-Distance type (though the very serious rallyists will claim that they’re having great fun on TSDs, even if they end up in divorce court!). And that’s just the kind of rallying that we’re NOT going to be doing here in CCCR. CCCR rallyes are gonna be FUN, darnit! OK- -so how do you make a rallye FUN? Well, first let me say that nearly all rallyes worthy of the name involve some type of route-finding; what the heck--all of us are involved from time to time in having to find our way to some destination. Simple route-finding rallyes help us fine-tune our destination-finding skills. Add to this some type of gimmick to expand our enjoyment while finding our way-gimmicks such as locating landmarks along the way, creating winning poker hands, treasure-hunting, and the like. Of course, ending at a site where libations and comestibles are available makes rallying lots more, well, fun. And that’s the kind of rallying we’re going to do here in CCCR; that’s SEMI-COHERENT RAMBLINGS FROM THE ACTIVITIES CHAIR California Central Coast Porsche Club Of America November 2010 exactly the kind we’re going to do in March. Don’t let the word “rallye” keep you from joining in on the March fun. Or any other month (what--there’s gonna be more???). Speaking of more, there’s lots of room for us to do lots of different fun events, each having something to do with our cars--mainly our Porsches, of course. What do YOU want to do? What sort of event would YOU be able, and willing, to organize? Think of all the neat roads in this CCCR territory of ours, most leading to some interesting spot, all fun to drive on (there’s that FUN thing again). I’d like to take this opportunity to challenge all you Porsche Puschers out there to come up with something FUN for us to do in the coming year. Look on Page 4 of this issue, find my phone number and email address, and tell me what you want to do, or want you’re GOING to do for this club.
