MORNING BIRD WALK

Venture outside and join Dave Harvey of the Carroll County Bird Club, for
a morning bird walk. Search for the many different types of songbirds,
waterfowl, raptors, and woodpeckers that inhabit Piney Run Park. Beginning
birders are welcome. We suggest bringing along binoculars and field
guides. Dress for the weather since walks will occur in both rain or shine.
Age: 10-adult. Meet at the PRNC front entrance.

Sign up for a stroll through the woods of Piney Run to learn all about our
underappreciated forest friends, “THE DECOMPOSERS!” We will learn
about the life cycle of a tree and play a super-fun game to see what wiggly
things we can discover under fallen logs, in rotten stumps, and by digging
in the dirt! Age: 5-9.
TIME: 11am-12pm FEE: $5
A NIGHT UNDER THE STARS CAMPOUT

Join us for a fun-filled night of exploration as we study the wonders of the
night sky and fall asleep under a blanket of stars. Learn about the different
phases of the moon, how to identify the constellations, and
simply enjoy gazing into outer space. Find out how to be
an eco-friendly camper and how to “leave no trace” while
enjoying the outdoors. Don’t forget your flashlights,
imaginations, or appetites for Ice Cream! Dinner
(hamburgers and hot dogs) and a Continental Breakfast will be provided.
Families must provide own tent and equipment. Age: families.
TIME: 6pm–8am FEE: $50 per family
PADDLE DOWN HISTORIC
BRANDYWINE RIVER

The Brandywine River flows through some very beautiful countryside located
in historic Brandywine valley of Pennsylvania and Northern Delaware,
home to many famous people throughout history. Our paddle will
take us through the grounds of the famous artist N.C. Wyeth and one of the
DuPont estates. We will stop along the way at a beautiful pebbled beach to
have a picnic lunch of fried chicken, potato salad, and assorted snacks
(provided) and to rest as well as enjoy the scenery. The trip leader is the
former naturalist of Brandywine Creek State Park and will be able to provide
interesting facts about the history and scenery along the way. We will
place 2 people per canoe (provided). Age: 15-adult. Meet at Piney Run
Boat Trailer Parking Lot.
TIME: 7am-6pm FEE: $60 per person
CELEBRATE SUMMER AT THE PARK

The warmest season of the year is almost upon us. What goes perfect with
some sunshine? … a PICNIC & Ice Cream!! Bring the whole family to
enjoy a relaxing afternoon under shady trees, and a delicious dinner
(hotdogs/hamburgers/chips/watermelon) with a great view of the lake at
Piney Run. There will be a special animal show after the feast, where you
can meet our favorite animal friends. Age: all.

REPTILE AND AMPHIBIAN SURVEY

Discover how scientists find, identify, and survey our special coldblooded
friends. No log will remain unturned as we scour the forest, streams and
ponds of Piney Run for Maryland’s favorite snakes, turtles, frogs, salamanders
and more! Bring your water bottles and get ready for an adventurous

and educational morning at Piney Run. We will even record our findings
for a real survey being done by the Maryland Amphibian and Reptile
Atlas (MARA). Age: 9-adult.

CAMOUFLAGE, CAMOUFLAGE, CAMOUFLAGE

Find out how animals use camouflage to survive. Whether they are covered
in scales, fur, or feathers, most animals use camouflage in some shape or
form. Dress in your own camouflage gear for a special game of hide-and
go-seek in our shady pine forest. Learn about the advantages and disadvantages
of camouflage, while having a great time getting dirty in the
woods. Age: 5-9.

WATER QUALITY, WETLANDS & THE BAY
August 14 1 session Sunday

How clean is the water you drink? Learn how to test for water quality and
how our everyday actions affect the Chesapeake Bay. While we take a hike
around the park, we’ll discuss erosion and gain a better understanding of
the benefits of wetlands. We will also talk about the health of the Chesapeake
Bay. Learn how to do your part to help get the Bay healthy and
clean, so that everyone and everything can enjoy this special resource we
call home. Don’t forget your water bottles and make sure to dress for rain
or shine. Age: 9-adult.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL CRAFT CELEBRATION
August 28 1 session Sunday

Join us for an end-of-summer celebration! We will make a special
“summer-themed” craft that you can take home, and have delicious
summer-time treat that you can put in your belly, and we’ll wash it all
down with fresh-squeezed lemonade! Craft will be outside (weather
permitting) so don’t forget your sunscreen and water bottles! Age: 3-5.
