Fugato – Style and performance in a new light 

Inspiring ambience 

Reflecting our commitment to give our customers satisfying and 

inspiring lighting experiences, Philips is pleased to introduce the 

Fugato range of downlights, which have been developed for 

application in retail outlets, offices and public areas. Incorporating 

Philips’ latest optics and lamps, these luminaires deliver a range of 

lighting effects that create an appealing and dynamic indoor 

ambience. 

The Fugato downlights come in four logical sizes (for 125, 175, 225 

and 275 mm cut-outs), their clean design adding to their aesthetic 

appeal. 

4.4 DOWNLIGHTS 

Flexibility and consistency 

Besides fixed luminaires Fugato offers a choice of models with 

cardanic suspension or full internal/external adjustability.The 

flexibility that this provides, combined with the extensive choice of 

optics, ensures maximum freedom in lighting design.At the same 

time, visual consistency is assured as the adjustable versions have the 

same dimensions and family look as the fixed models.


Versatile concept 

The Fugato concept offers further scope to create a dynamic, 

personalised lighting ambience by integrating for instance, lighting 

controls (for added comfort and energy efficiency), LED accent 

lighting and fluorescent colour mixing. Last but not least, this highly 

versatile range continues Philips’ tradition of offering outstanding 

ease of installation combined with the lowest possible cost of 

ownership (re-use of system, electronic ballasts for energy saving). 

Fixed downlights for compact fluorescent, discharge and 

halogen lamps. All fixed versions share the same conceptual 

low optic unit, offering clean visual appearance. 

Adjustable downlight for discharge and halogen lamps. This 

downlight offers internal adjustability up to 40 degrees and 

external adjustability up to 80 degrees. 

The Fugato downlights can accommodate a host of lamp types for 

different applications.These include the latest high-output CFL lamps 

for public areas (PL-T 57W), as well as the new extra-long-life, 

low-heat MASTER line Tc halogen lamp and state-of-the-art 

MASTER Colour CDM lamps for retail lighting. 

Cardanic downlight for discharge and halogen lamps. 

This version offers 40 degree tilt in all directions.

Fugato Compact – FBS261 – FBS263 

Fugato Compact is a range of fixed recessed downlights with highly 

efficient optics intended for general applications.This platform, which 

has a 175 mm cut-out, is meant for general lighting with compact 

fluorescent lamps.The lamp portfolio consists of MASTER PL-C and 

PL-T lamps. Within the Compact platform, fixed and adjustable 

versions for discharge and halogen lamps can also be selected. 

Optical variation in Compact CFL (FBS261) is offered by means of 

Fugato’s ‘dual optic’ concept.The top optic is made of high-gloss 

aluminium.The lower polymer optic can be ordered in a high-gloss, 

mat-satin or white finish.The high-gloss (C) version complies with 

the UGRR19 norm (in accordance with EN12464-1, 

Lm < 1 000 cd/m 2 at γ > 65°). when used with the innovative round 

louver. In the Fugato concept there is a seamless transition from the 

lower optic to the rim, rendering a clean visual articulation of the 

luminaire when installed in the ceiling. 

As well as being offered in the dual-optic version (with optical 

variation in the lower optic), the low-height version is also available 

in a fully metallised polymer version (FBS263).This single-optic 

downlight, with a similar cut-out, has lower optical qualities, fewer 

accessories and a more limited choice of lamps. 

Emergency lighting (EL3 and EL1) is offered for PL-C lamps (one 

lamp maintained for 3 hours/1 hour respectively). 

Lamps, gear and accessories are delivered with the luminaire. 

Decorative accessories will be delivered separately.

• Lamp position: horizontal 

• Materials: die-cast aluminium top reflector, stainless-steel mounting 

frame, polycarbonate lamp holder box and lower optic; fully 

metallised polymer version (FBS263) made of polycarbonate 

• Colour of the rim: white (RAL 9010) and (light) grey 

Installation 

• Cut-out: ø 175 mm. 

• Mounting: install mounting frame, make electrical connection and 

place optical unit into mounting frame. Luminaire including lamp 

and accessory can be installed directly into the ceiling. 

• Protection foil is optional for PL-C versions. 

• Thickness of false ceiling: 1 - 24 mm. 

• Maintenance: optics are open (FBS261) or closed (FBS263) on 

top side; access from below for lamp replacement.

Fugato Performance is a range of fixed recessed downlights with 

highly efficient optics intended for high-ceiling applications.This part 

of the range is meant for highly demanding applications where 

luminous flux, glare limitation and efficiency are key.This platform is 

designed for general lighting with compact fluorescent lamps.The 

platform cut-out is 225 mm.The lamp portfolio consists of MASTER 

PL-C and PL-T lamps. 

Fugato Performance proposes standard-height (FBS270) and lowheight 

luminaires (FBS271). Optical variation is offered by means of 

Fugato’s ‘dual optic’ concept.The top optic is made of high-gloss 

aluminium. In both versions (standard and low height), the lower 

polymer optic can be specified in a high-gloss, mat satin or white 

finish.The high-gloss (C) version complies with the UGRR19 norm 

(in accordance with EN12464-1, Lm < 1 000 cd/m 2 at γ > 65°) 

without louvre (standard height) and when used with the innovative 

round louvre (low height). In the Fugato concept there is a seamless

Fugato Mini is a range of miniaturised fixed (250 series) and 

cardanic (254 series) recessed downlights intended for retail 

applications.This part of the range accommodates miniature 

halogen and compact discharge lamps for accent lighting.The 

platform cut-out is 125 mm.The lamp portfolio consists of MASTER 

Colour CDM-Tc and CDM-R20 discharge lamps and MASTER Line- 

Tc, Capsule Line PRO and MASTER-PAR20S halogen lamps. 


The top optic is made of high-gloss aluminium and ensures 12º, 24º 

and 36º beam control. In the Fugato concept there is a seamless 

transition from the lower optic (matt and white) to the rim, 

rendering a clean visual articulation of the luminaire when installed 

in the ceiling. 

Lamp, gear and accessories are delivered with the luminaire.

Fugato Compact is a range of miniaturised fixed (260 series), 

cardanic (264 series) and fully internally/externally adjustable (262 

series) recessed downlights intended for retail applications.This part 

of the range accommodates miniature halogen and compact 

discharge lamps for accent lighting.The platform cut-out is 175 mm. 


The top optic is made of high-gloss aluminium and ensures 12º, 24º 

or 36º beam control. In the Fugato concept there is a seamless 

transition from the lower optic (matt and white) to the rim, 

rendering a clean visual articulation of the luminaire when installed 

in the ceiling. 

The fixed version (MBS260) is offered with a flood optic (60º) for 

general lighting. Furthermore, gold optics (24º and 36º) are available 

in the adjustable and cardanic versions (MBS262/264), especially for 

food applications, to make the merchandise look even more fresh. 

Lamp, gear and accessories are delivered with the luminaire.

DOWNLIGHTS 

The installation of the mounting frame that 

comes with Fugato downlights is a 

common step to take. One of the 

advantages of the frame is that both fixed 

and adjustable downlights within one size 

make use of the same frame, in that way 

they can even be exchanged in a project 

after they have been installed. 

Standard push-in connection block with 

two contacts per pole for all connections, 

such as mains and controls on the gearbox. 

With a separate frame, to be ordered 

separately, any Fugato can be installed 

completely integrated into plaster ceilings.

Fugato installation information 

For MASTER Colour 35 W and 70 W 

lamps a new miniature independent 

electronic ballast will be offered with pushin 

connection. This makes the total system 

extremely compact and more easy to use. 

Universal, 3 pole, plug-in connector 

(Wieland GST18/3) for fast connection 

from outside the housing. 

With a few clips, to be ordered separately, 

any Fugato can be integrated into these 

metal (cooled) ceilings. It gives a clean and 

rimless appreciation. More information can be
