Q. What can I do to prepare for a job interview?
A. When considering employment,
ask yourself the following questions:
Who is the employer? And what does
the interviewer expect of me?
Thoroughly research the employer.
Know with whom you are going
to be interviewing (their name, position,
title, etc.). Know the firm: Check the NALP Directory
of Legal Employers, Martindale-Hubbell
and personal contacts. Try to get a company brochure
before your interview.
Most interviewers will be looking for maturity,
level of knowledge, ability to make good
judgments, communication skills, and basic values
and goals. Therefore, present yourself with
a strong, warm, friendly voice. Speak with confidence,
speak clearly, smile while you are speak-

success, both in clerkships and as a practicing
attorney.

Having the skill to interview well is not necessarily
an innate talent. It is a skill. And like
any skill, it can be learned and even mastered
with practice.
Utilize the resources available to you in your
career services office. Participate in the Mock
Interview Program and “Experiencing the Perfect
Interview” seminar. These programs are designed
to prepare students to enter the legal job
market with a greater sense of confidence.

Murphy of Gardner Aldrich & Murphy to participate
in a panel discussion. Participants
provided insights on networking to gain employment
while the career services office offered
information on preparing cover letters
and résumés.
The Attorney General’s Office
The office of the attorney general hired Kevin
Mullen and Kevin Scrivner as summer interns
to work at least six weeks in Austin.
They will be permitted to rotate among divisions
and work alongside senior attorneys,
gaining hands-on experience in their fields of
interest.
The FBI
The Federal Bureau of Investigation presented
an information session to 60 students and interviewed
15 of those students for the Honors
Intern Program and FBI Agent Entry Program.
Candidates will go through a vigorous
application process to determine their eligibility
to join the bureau.
