For the last four years Unionville High School has undergone a significant renovation project that
drastically reduced the number of student parking spaces available. As a result, juniors have not had the
opportunity to park on campus. However, with the construction project now complete and additional
parking spaces now available, we are once again able to offer a limited number of parking passes to
junior drivers. To provide an equitable opportunity for each junior driver, we will be collecting parking
applications from interested students during the week of November 26 th . On Friday, November 30 th , we
will hold a lottery to determine which juniors will be able to drive for the remainder of the semester.
The students selected will be informed Friday and will be able to pick up their pass at that time.
Because we are already partially into the second marking period, the $100/semester cost will be prorated
to $35 for the remainder of this first semester. Our plan is that those juniors who are eligible and are
selected through the lottery will be able to begin driving on Monday December 3 rd .
Only those students who plan to drive on a daily basis and can supply the required information will be
allowed to purchase a parking permit.

A copy of the items listed above must be provided to the main office by 7:45am on Friday morning.
Incomplete application packets will not be considered for the lottery. Students who are selected in
the lottery will be assigned a permit valid until the end of the semester (January 18 th ). Students are only
to park in the designated student parking areas and must display the permit at all times while parked on
campus.
As we have done in the past, students will continue to have an opportunity to get temporary parking
permits throughout the year if they require a one day or short term parking pass for an emergency.

It is mandatory at the time of application for the student to present their valid driver’s license,
registration card, and insurance card.
I have read and agree to comply with all regulations that have been adopted by the Unionville-Chadds
Ford School Board governing the use of vehicles on Unionville High School grounds (attached). A
student’s driving privilege will be revoked for the remainder of the school year if a student: (1)
accumulates five unexcused lates to school in a given semester; (2) fails two or more course during a
marking period; (3) lends their parking permit to another student; (4) has unexcused lateness to school
following second period;; (5) failure to bring in required Doctor’s note;; (6) cutting school/truancy;; (7)
leaving our building or grounds without permission; (8) reckless driving on school property (at any time);
and (9) any level “F” offense.
Assignment of a parking permit number indicates approval by the school for this automobile to be parked
on school grounds. It is further assumed that the student will follow all rules and regulation pertaining to
the safe operation of a motor vehicle on school grounds. Failure to do so will result in the loss of this
privilege. Student vehicles parked on school property are subject to search.

The Unionville-Chadds Ford School Board adopted the following rules and regulations covering the operation of
vehicles on school grounds.
I. NEED FOR SYSTEM OF TRAFFIC CONTROL ON SCHOOL GROUNDS
Being aware of our responsibility for the safety of all boys and girls attending, and persons working or
visiting the school, as well as for the protection of all public and private property, we of the Unionville-Chadds
Ford School Board feel that a well-defined policy governing the use of public and private vehicles on school
grounds is required.
Therefore, in order that lives and property be protected, the following rules and regulation have been
adopted concerning the use of vehicles on school property during school hours and during school activities
conducted at times other that the school day. It is to be noted that although the requiring of school vehicle
permits is limited to students, all persons driving on the grounds (including staff, faculty, and visitors) will be
required to abide by these same regulations.
II. PROCEDURE FOR SECURING SCHOOL DRIVING PERMITS
Vehicles may be driven on the grounds of Unionville High School by students only if:
A. The parent or guardian of the student who wishes to drive on school grounds has made application for a
school driving permit.
B. The school authorities have issued such a permit.
C. The student driver and his/her parent or guardian agrees to comply with all rules and regulations relative to
the operation of any vehicle on school grounds.
D. Only one Parking Permit may be issued per family.
III. RULES AND REGULATIONS
A. The driver of any vehicle must have a valid driver’s license.
B. Any car driven on school grounds must be properly licensed and must carry a currently valid state
inspection sticker.
C. No one except the person designated on the school-issued permit will be permitted to drive the
vehicle on the school grounds during regular school hours.
D. The driver must have on file, in the High School office, an application form signed by a parent or guardian
and approved by a responsible school official.
E. The driver of any vehicle operated on school grounds must produce evidence that the car is insured for
property damage and personal liability.
F. During athletic contests or other school-sponsored events, no vehicle shall be driven on school grounds
except to enter to view the contest and to leave immediately after the conclusion of the event.
G. Students will park only in designated student parking areas during regular school hours.
H. Vehicles will be driven on roadways and in designated parking areas only. Special written permission may
be given to drive on other parts of the school grounds when appropriate.
I. Appropriate lights are to be used in keeping with the need to safely operate a vehicle and to be seen by
others.
J. All drivers must keep to the right and drive in single file unless conditions warrant passing another vehicle
and providing such passing may be accomplished safely.
K. No vehicle is to be driven from school grounds prior to the normal dismissal time of the driver and/or
passengers unless specific permission to leave has been granted by a school official.
L. Students may not enter vehicles during the regular school day unless specific written permission is granted
by an administrator.
M. Vehicles are not to be driven faster than 15 miles per hour on school grounds.
N. Extra caution must be employed when driving around corners and in areas where students may be walking.
The pedestrian always has the “Right of Way.”
O. The number of occupants in a vehicle may not exceed the number of available seat belts. All passengers
must wear a seat belt while the vehicle is in motion.
P. School employees only are permitted to drive school-owned vehicles, with the exception of the driver
education vehicle and that only with the approval and permission of the instructor.
Q. Teachers and other school employees shall not send students on an errand of any kind in a private vehicle.
The administration shall not grant permission for such an errand unless the student’s parent or guardian has
granted permission for the particular errand.

R. Students must make proper use of seat belts while vehicles are in motion on school property. This is a state
law that will be enforced.
S. STUDENTS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO LEND THEIR PARKING STICKERS TO OTHER
STUDENTS. STUDENTS FOUND DOING THIS WILL BE SUSPENDED AND HAVE THEIR
PARKING PRIVILEGE REVOKED.
T. STUDENT VEHICLES PARKED ON SCHOOL PROPERTY ARE SUBJECT TO SEARCH.
U. IT IS MANDATORY THAT VEHICLES PARKING ON CAMPUS MUST DISPLAY THEIR
PARKING PERMIT ON THEIR REAR VIEW MIRROR AT ALL TIMES DURING THE
SCHOOL DAY.
IV. PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS
A. Failure to abide by and comply with all the above regulations will result in the loss of driving privilege on
school grounds. Privileges may be revoked for days, weeks, months, or the entire school year depending
upon the severity of the offense. Appropriate discipline as per the district Discipline Policy will also be
applied.
B. If second offenses are committed they will be punishable by either or both of the following penalties:
1. The suspension of the offender from school.
2. The withholding of the student’s privilege to participate in extra-curricular activities for a time deemed
proper by school officials.
C. In addition to A and B (above), permission to drive on school grounds may be permanently forfeited.
D. Cars which are parked illegally on school property will be “booted.” Drivers of “booted” vehicles are to
contact the Main Office to have the boot removed.
E. Vehicles that are continually illegally parked will be towed from school grounds at the owner’s expense.
