The <strong>2010</strong> Gulf Research Meeting<br />

Political Economy <strong>of</strong> Internationalization <strong>of</strong> Higher Education in the Sultanate <strong>of</strong> Oman.” In his<br />

paper, Brandenburg presented the findings <strong>of</strong> his fieldwork, showing how the distinction between<br />

national and other public/private institutions reproduces socioeconomic distinctions between<br />

diverse constituencies, <strong>of</strong>fering differential opportunity structures to different groups in Oman.<br />

In addition to the presenting contributors, the workshop was extremely well attended throughout<br />

the three days. A number <strong>of</strong> doctoral students, as well as high pr<strong>of</strong>ile academics and administrators<br />

from various GCC universities actively participated in and contributed to the deliberations and<br />
