Royal Aeronautical Society / Handbook 2012 President 2011 - 2012 Lee R Balthazor BTech(Hons) MSc DMS CEng FAPM FCMI FRAeS President-Elect 8 Lee Balthazor is Past President of the Royal Aeronautical Society and currently a Council Member and Chairman of the Medals and Awards Committee. He runs an independent aerospace risk management consultancy. His clients have included major aerospace companies and, most recently, the UK Ministry of Defence. He is a Visiting Professor at Bristol University and also a visiting speaker at Cranfield, Portsmouth and Warwick Universities. He has published and presented internationally on the management of international aerospace projects and risk management. Lee has been actively involved with almost every part of RAeS professional institution activity and has experience within, or working with, the aerospace industry, armed services, government agencies and academia. 2011 - 2012 Phil Boyle BSc(Eng) MSc CEng MIEE MRAeS Phil Boyle grew up in Portsmouth where he attended Portsmouth Grammar School. He read Engineering Science at University College, Durham, and completed his RAF officer and pilot training as a member of No 1 Graduate Entry at RAFC Cranwell. Phil’s first operational post was on No 36 Sqn, Hercules, followed by a tour as the Wing Weapons Officer for the RAF Germany Harrier Force. He then spent two tours flying Nimrods on No 42 Sqn (Falklands War 1982). After retiring from the RAF in 1987 Phil worked as a consultant for two London-based management consultancies before joining Ramsey Hall in 1991. He has been the Managing Director of Ramsey Hall Ltd since 1993, during which period the company has established itself as one of the UK’s most respected Talent Management Consultancies. Phil first became actively involved with the Society as a Branch committee member at Boscombe Down. He was elected to Council in 1992 and has since been re-elected five times. Phil is a member of Council, the Advisory Committee and the Finance Board. He chairs the Society’s Governance Working Group and is a Trustee of the Society’s pension fund. He has been Chairman of the Solent Branch since 1994. Phil is married to Bharti; they have two adult sons, Mark and Kieron.
