Venue: The Countdown <strong>Celebrations</strong> Officiating Ceremony will take place on<br />
the <strong>Hong</strong> Kong Cultural Centre (HKCC) Viewing Deck.<br />
Time: The pyrotechnic show will begin at midnight and last for eight minutes.<br />

Theme and Features of the Pyrotechnic Show<br />
Theme <strong>New</strong> <strong>Year</strong> <strong>New</strong> World<br />
<strong>New</strong> Elements This year’s edition will be the biggest in scale in the event’s<br />
history.<br />
For the first time, the HKCEC will be featured as the focal point.<br />
For the first time, both land- and sea-based pyrotechnics will be<br />
launched. The pyrotechnics will be launched in three layers:<br />
1. Victoria Harbour<br />
2. HKCEC<br />
3. The other five participating buildings in Wan Chai<br />
The pyrotechnics will be synchronised and evolve with theme<br />
music.<br />
For the first time, pyrotechnics with special firecrackers and<br />
whistle-like sound effects will be used to enhance the excitement.<br />

Event Rundown<br />
Every 15 minutes starting from 11:00pm, a pyrotechnic display<br />
will be launched from the rooftops of the six participating<br />
buildings in Wan Chai (the HKCEC, Harbour Centre,<br />
Immigration Tower, Revenue Tower, Hopewell Centre and<br />
Harcourt House), lighting up the sky with “shooting stars”.<br />
The stars will come in four colours to symbolise good wishes in<br />
four areas:<br />
- Silver for career<br />
- Green for health<br />
- Gold for fortune<br />
- Red for love<br />
Time Activity<br />
11:00pm A silver-themed pyrotechnic display from atop the six participating<br />
buildings on <strong>Hong</strong> Kong Island symbolising wishes for career success.<br />
<strong>New</strong> <strong>Year</strong> blessings will appear on the giant LED screen on the façade<br />
of the HKCEC.<br />
11:15pm A green-themed pyrotechnic display from atop the six participating<br />
buildings on <strong>Hong</strong> Kong Island symbolising wishes for good health.<br />
Music and dance performances begin on the HKCC Viewing Deck and<br />
will be projected onto the façade of the HKCC.<br />
11:30pm A gold-themed pyrotechnic display from atop the six participating<br />
buildings on <strong>Hong</strong> Kong Island symbolising wishes for good fortune.<br />
11:45pm A red-themed pyrotechnic display from atop the six participating<br />
buildings on <strong>Hong</strong> Kong Island symbolising wishes for good luck in<br />
love.<br />
The event will be broadcast live on Television Broadcasts Limited’s<br />
(TVB) Jade Channel.<br />
11:59:00pm The numerical countdown in LED lights commences on the façade of<br />
the HKCEC.<br />
11:59:40pm The Countdown <strong>Celebrations</strong> Officiating Ceremony begins.<br />
11:59:50pm The numerical countdown of the last 10 seconds of 2012 in LED lights<br />
commences on the façade of the HKCEC.<br />
A numeric pyrotechnic display from the rooftops of the other five<br />
participating buildings on <strong>Hong</strong> Kong Island for the final countdown<br />
begins.<br />
Midnight The eight-minute pyrotechnic show officially commences, with the<br />
pyrotechnics launched from the harbour and surrounding buildings at<br />
the same time.<br />
The numerals “2013” in LED lights appear on the façade of HKCEC to<br />
the accompaniment of theme music produced by Mr Chiu Tsang Hei.<br />
12:08am The pyrotechnic show ends.<br />
12:30am The live broadcast of the event by TVB ends.<br />

The HKTB will provide satellite feed of the celebrations to international TV stations.<br />

Transport arrangements on land:<br />
o On the day of the event, special traffic and transport arrangements will be<br />
implemented in various parts of Central, Wan Chai and Tsim Sha Tsui from<br />

6:00pm onwards. Members of the public can visit the Transport Department’s<br />
website (www.td.gov.hk) for the latest updates.<br />
Transport arrangements at sea:<br />
o The <strong>Hong</strong> Kong Marine Department will patrol Victoria Harbour to supervise<br />
and prevent boats from entering the specific marine area and from obstructing<br />
the fairway. The Marine Department will also inform cruise tour operators and<br />
other stakeholders of the event arrangements in advance.<br />
o The Marine Police will assist in maintaining order in Victoria Harbour on the<br />
night of the event.<br />
o Concerning visitors, the HKTB will, prior to the event, remind cruise tour<br />
operators to take note and adhere to the event day arrangements and the<br />
guidelines imposed by the <strong>Hong</strong> Kong Marine Department. During the event,<br />
the HKTB will arrange for tug boats to be stationed in the harbour to prevent<br />
other boats from entering the pyrotechnics launching area.<br />
