Benjam<strong>in</strong> Armstrong<br />

Benjam<strong>in</strong> Armstrong (born 1975) <strong>in</strong> Melbourne where<br />

he currently lives and works. Armstrong graduated <strong>in</strong><br />

1996 from the Victorian College of the Arts. He works<br />

through a variety of mediums. Draw<strong>in</strong>g forms the<br />

nucleus of his practice with pr<strong>in</strong>tmak<strong>in</strong>g and sculpture<br />

circl<strong>in</strong>g around it. Recent solo exhibitions <strong>in</strong>clude: The<br />

shape of th<strong>in</strong>gs to come (Tolarno Galleries, Melbourne,<br />

2008); Benjam<strong>in</strong> Armstrong (<strong>Project</strong> space and spare<br />

room, RMIT, Melbourne, 2006); Gather<strong>in</strong>g (<strong>Project</strong><br />

space, RMIT, Melbourne, 2005); Draw<strong>in</strong>gs (TCB Art Inc,<br />

Melbourne, 2002). He has also participated <strong>in</strong> various<br />

group exhibitions <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g A room <strong>in</strong>side (Ian Potter<br />

Museum of Art, Melbourne University, Melbourne, 2007);<br />

Before the body- Matter (Monash University Museum<br />

of Art, Melbourne, 2006-07); Primavera (Museum of<br />

Contemporary Art, Sydney, 2006); Benjam<strong>in</strong> Armstrong<br />

and Kather<strong>in</strong>e Huang (<strong>Project</strong> space, RMIT, Melbourne,<br />

2003) His work is <strong>in</strong> the collection of the British Museum,<br />

Pr<strong>in</strong>ts and Draw<strong>in</strong>g Department and the Monash<br />

University Museum of Art. He is represented by Tolarno<br />

Galleries, Melbourne.<br />

Sam Leach<br />

Sam Leach (born 1973) <strong>in</strong> Adelaide, South <strong>Australia</strong>,<br />

currently resides <strong>in</strong> Melbourne. He completed a Diploma<br />

of Art, Bachelor of F<strong>in</strong>e Art and a Master of F<strong>in</strong>e Art at<br />

RMIT <strong>in</strong> Melbourne, Victoria. Leach worked for many<br />

years <strong>in</strong> the <strong>Australia</strong>n Tax Office but <strong>in</strong> 2006 he won<br />

a major art prize, the Metro Five. S<strong>in</strong>ce then he has<br />

consistently won many prizes and has been acquired<br />

by a number of public galleries <strong>in</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> and private<br />

collections across the world. Notably, he has been a<br />

f<strong>in</strong>alist for the highly prestigious Archibald Prize <strong>in</strong> 2007,<br />

2008 and 2009. In 2010 his portrait of musical comedian<br />

Tim M<strong>in</strong>ch<strong>in</strong> won the Archibald Prize. In the same year,<br />

he won the Wynne Prize for his landscape Proposal for<br />

landscaped cosmos. In do<strong>in</strong>g so he became one of three<br />

artists, after William Dobell and Brett Whiteley, to w<strong>in</strong> the<br />

Archibald portrait prize and the Wynne landscape prize <strong>in</strong><br />

the same year.<br />

Tony Lloyd<br />

Tony Lloyd has shown widely <strong>in</strong> <strong>Australia</strong> and Europe. He<br />

has undertaken artist residencies at The British School,<br />

Rome and Canvas International Art, Netherlands.<br />

In 2009 Gippsland Art Gallery presented Lost Highways<br />

a survey of his work from the previous decade. In 2010<br />

Tony Lloyd will show <strong>in</strong> London and Melbourne.<br />

His pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>gs are held <strong>in</strong> public and private collections <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>Australia</strong>, Japan, Europe and U.S.A.<br />

Tony Lloyd is also an arts writer and makes regular<br />
