Accepted to an intensive 3-day workshop co-sponsored by the Data Sharing for<br />
Demographic Research (DSDR) Project and the Child Care & Early Education<br />
Research Connections (CCEERC) group at the Inter-<strong>University</strong> Consortium for Political<br />
and Social Research (ICPSR) in Ann Arbor, Michigan.<br />
Research Assistant, Institute for Policy & Social Research, <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Kansas, Lawrence,<br />
Kansas, June 2005<br />
Worked with Pr<strong>of</strong>essors Shirley Hill and Mary Zimmerman exploring the effects <strong>of</strong><br />
social-environmental risk factors on birth outcomes using Census data. Analysis<br />
required use <strong>of</strong> SPSS and ArcView GIS. Responsibilities also included compiling a<br />
review <strong>of</strong> academic literature.<br />
Research Assistant, Brigham Young <strong>University</strong>, Provo, Utah, Jan. 2003 – Aug. 2004<br />
Worked on Geneva Steelworkers project with Pr<strong>of</strong>essors Marie Cornwall, Ralph Brown,<br />
and Carol Ward. Participated in the production <strong>of</strong> two surveys – one longitudinal, the<br />
other a community comparison. Conducted 40 interviews with unemployed steelworkers<br />
and their wives. Assisted in the coding <strong>of</strong> 90 completed interviews (using QSR N6).<br />
Oversaw aspects <strong>of</strong> the research design and data collection processes. Acted as Data<br />
Manager for the project dataset. Created tables and charts and ran analyses (using<br />
SPSS 11.5 and Amos 4.0). Also acted as a graduate mentor to undergraduate students<br />
working with the dataset.<br />
Research Assistant, Brigham Young <strong>University</strong>, Provo, Utah, Sept. 2001 – Dec. 2002<br />
Worked with Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Marie Cornwall on a Woman Suffrage historical research project<br />
funded by the National Science Foundation.<br />
Assisted in organization and management <strong>of</strong> the Woman Suffrage dataset (using<br />
Micros<strong>of</strong>t Access). Assignments included data entry in addition to census and archival<br />
work. Created tables, charts, and maps (using ArcView GIS 3.2) and conducted<br />
analyses (using Stata 7.0).<br />
