US MASTER Scholarship Application
Undergraduate Scholarships with Mathematics and Science
Training in Environmental Research
The National Science Foundation has awarded a grant to the University of North Dakota to support a scholarship program for
students in biology, chemistry, geography and mathematics. The goal is recruit and provide support for talented 1st
generation students who have a financial need and are completing a major in the sciences.
The US MASTER scholarship program will provide financial support for up to 4 years (if renewal criteria are satisfied) covering
tuition & fees with support of up to $10,000 a year depending on financial aid eligibility and the selection/eligibility criteria.
Eligibility Criteria:
· Eligibility for financial student aid demonstrating unmet need for the financial award package to be
provided by UND
· High school GPA ≥ 3.5 or ACT ≥25
· Full time enrollment in one of the above listed science majors
· Status as a first generation student
· US Citizen or eligible noncitizen
Selection Criteria:
· Personal statement (no more than 2000 characters) demonstrating interest in environmental research
· Two recommendation letters
Scholarship Renewal Criteria:
· Maintaining an institutional cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
· Active participation in seminars
To ensure full consideration of their request applicant must:
· Complete the UND admission application at http://und.edu/admissions/enrollment/ and indicate full time
enrollment in Biology, Chemistry, Geography or Mathematics.
· Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov; this is required to demonstrate
unmet need for the financial award package to be provided by UND.
· Return the completed US MASTER scholarship application (next page) via E-mail to US.MASTER@chem.und.edu, fax
at 701 777 2331 to attention of US MASTER, or mail to attention of US MASTER, 151 Cornell Street Stop 9024, Grand
Forks, ND, 58202.
· Ensure submission of 2 recommendation letters; the letters should be submitted directly by the recommenders via
E-mail, fax, or mail to the address specified above.
The priority date for the 2011-2012 academic year is April 15 2011. Applications received after that date will be
considered until the funds are awarded.
