<strong>US</strong> <strong>MASTER</strong> <strong>Scholarship</strong> <strong>Application</strong><br />

Undergraduate <strong>Scholarship</strong>s with Mathematics and Science<br />

Training in Environmental Research<br />

The National Science Foundation has awarded a grant to the <strong>University</strong> of North Dakota to support a scholarship program for<br />

students in biology, chemistry, geography and mathematics. The goal is recruit and provide support for talented 1st<br />

generation students who have a financial need and are completing a major in the sciences.<br />

The <strong>US</strong> <strong>MASTER</strong> scholarship program will provide financial support for up to 4 years (if renewal criteria are satisfied) covering<br />

tuition & fees with support of up to $10,000 a year depending on financial aid eligibility and the selection/eligibility criteria.<br />

Eligibility Criteria:<br />

· Eligibility for financial student aid demonstrating unmet need for the financial award package to be<br />

provided by UND<br />

· High school GPA ≥ 3.5 or ACT ≥25<br />

· Full time enrollment in one of the above listed science majors<br />

· Status as a first generation student<br />

· <strong>US</strong> Citizen or eligible noncitizen<br />

Selection Criteria:<br />

· Personal statement (no more than 2000 characters) demonstrating interest in environmental research<br />

· Two recommendation letters<br />

<strong>Scholarship</strong> Renewal Criteria:<br />

· Maintaining an institutional cumulative GPA of at least 3.0<br />

· Active participation in seminars<br />

To ensure full consideration of their request applicant must:<br />

· Complete the UND admission application at http://und.edu/admissions/enrollment/ and indicate full time<br />

enrollment in Biology, Chemistry, Geography or Mathematics.<br />

· Complete the Free <strong>Application</strong> for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov; this is required to demonstrate<br />

unmet need for the financial award package to be provided by UND.<br />

· Return the completed <strong>US</strong> <strong>MASTER</strong> scholarship application (next page) via E-mail to <strong>US</strong>.<strong>MASTER</strong>@chem.und.edu, fax<br />

at 701 777 2331 to attention of <strong>US</strong> <strong>MASTER</strong>, or mail to attention of <strong>US</strong> <strong>MASTER</strong>, 151 Cornell Street Stop 9024, Grand<br />

Forks, ND, 58202.<br />

· Ensure submission of 2 recommendation letters; the letters should be submitted directly by the recommenders via<br />

E-mail, fax, or mail to the address specified above.<br />

The priority date for the 2011-2012 academic year is April 15 2011. <strong>Application</strong>s received after that date will be<br />

considered until the funds are awarded.
