championships and accolades abound, including repeated Directors’ Cup titles, awarded to
the top overall athletic program in the nation each year. But that is not what sets us apart.
Stanford’s athletic feats stand side by side with world-class academics and groundbreaking
research—a winning combination not found anywhere else. in the classroom and
on the court, in the field and on the field, Stanford students inspire each other to excel.
Together, they learn how teamwork and leadership contribute to success.
Athletic scholarships, awarded for superior performance,
are key. They are a powerful recruiting tool
and often a determining factor that enables some
of the world’s best student-athletes to come to
Stanford. Without the backing of athletic scholarships,
Stanford would not be able to compete at
the highest levels of collegiate sports. More than
500 student-athletes benefit from this merit-based
financial aid, equivalent to more than 340 full-ride
scholarships. Many of these students would require
need-based financial aid to attend if they were not
offered athletic scholarships. for these high achievers,
the Farm is the only place where they can play
alongside the best and learn with the brightest.
AnnuAl giftS to the BuCK/CArDinAl CluB will AlSo plAy A CritiCAl role—By filling the
gap between endowment and the needs of today’s student-athletes. By giving at least
$25,000 per year, donors provide significant assistance in underwriting scholarship aid
and program support for varsity student-athletes. Donors at this level are provided the
unique opportunity to learn about and get to know Cardinal student-athletes—on and
off the field—while continuing to receive the benefits of Buck/Cardinal Club membership.

not just the limited few who can afford to pay full price, and we depend on the generous
support of donors to help bring that vision to life. There is no greater gift than the gift
of an education, and at Stanford that translates into unrivaled breadth and depth from
the classroom to the lab to the playing field. The full impact of that gift—whether it’s an
endowed, need-based scholarship, a Stanford Fund Scholarship, or an athletic scholarship—is
measured not simply by what student recipients accomplish in their four years
on campus, but more broadly by what they contribute to their communities and the
world over the course of their lifetimes.
