Capt. John Cutler and his Men.<br />

Capt. John Cutter was <strong>the</strong> son <strong>of</strong> Robert (<strong>of</strong> Charlestown <strong>in</strong><br />

1637, freeman 1638) and Rebecca his wife. John was probably<br />

born <strong>in</strong> England about 1628. He married first, Anna Woodman-<br />

sey, daughter <strong>of</strong> Robert and Anna. She died August 20, 1683, <strong>in</strong><br />

her 57th year, and he married second. Mehitable Hilton, October<br />

29, 1684. She died September 29, 1711, hav<strong>in</strong>g survived <strong>the</strong> cap-<br />

ta<strong>in</strong>, who died September 12th, 1694, <strong>in</strong> his 66th year. His children,<br />

all by his first wife, were— John ; Timothy ; Sarah, born October<br />

20, 1655, married Eleazer Phillips 1695-6; Samuel, born<br />

March 6, 1658; Hannah, married Daniel Willard, 1683; Robert,<br />

born November 15, 1663, died <strong>in</strong> Barbadoes August 30, 1683;<br />

Rebecca, born Novemher 5, 1666, married Josiah Bennett; Mary,<br />

born November 20, 1669, died 1703.<br />

Capt. Cutler was engaged dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> <strong>war</strong>, on various occasions,<br />

<strong>in</strong> conduct<strong>in</strong>g supply tra<strong>in</strong>s to <strong>the</strong> garrisons, and at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong><br />

Capt. Wadsworth's destruction at Sudbury, April 21, 1676, narrowly<br />

escaped be<strong>in</strong>g cut <strong>of</strong>f with his company return<strong>in</strong>g from Marlborough.<br />

He was <strong>in</strong> command <strong>of</strong> a company under Capt. Henchman<br />

<strong>the</strong> next month at Hassanamesit.<br />
