Why the classic metaphyseal<br />
lesion forms <strong>in</strong> the distal<br />
metaphysis:<br />
The most vulnerable part of the bone <strong>in</strong> an<br />
<strong>in</strong>fant is the distal metaphysis (aka primary<br />
spongiosa) spongiosa<br />
Hav<strong>in</strong>g no chondrocytes makes it weaker<br />
than physis. physis<br />
Fewer organized cells <strong>and</strong> less calcification<br />
makes it weaker than the more proximal<br />
parts of metaphysis or the rest of the bone.<br />
