The strong history of Andritz
production in Foshan, China
The Andritz Group, with its headquarters
in Graz, Austria, is a multibillion-eurogroup
dedicated to supplying equipment
and services to a wide range of
processing industries worldwide.
The Andritz production in China started
more than 12 years ago with a jointventure
company in Foshan, Guangdong.
In 2002 Andritz Technologies, Foshan,
Guangdong, was established as a
company 100% owned by Andritz,
engaged in manufacturing and selling
high-quality products in support of
multiple Andritz divisions.
Since then the company has grown
dramatically in China, with three
production sites in the Guangdong
province alone and close to 600
employees today. Andritz Technologies
provides state-of-the-art production of
competitive, high-quality products and
services for all Andritz Group divisions on
the Chinese and Asian markets.
It is within this dynamic production
environment that Andritz Sprout in 2006
established production facilities to
comply with the Asian needs in the feed
and biofuel business of Andritz Sprout
by means of equipment made in China
according to its global designs and quality
standards and matching local market
needs.

Extruders and conditioners in Andritz Sprout’s
manufacturing plant in Foshan, Guangdong
Today a select range of Andritz Sprout
products, such as extruders, conditioners,
pellet mills and controls are produced in
China.
Based on the successful initial
establishment in China, Andritz Sprout is
in process of establishing additional new
workshops in Foshan, China, in order
to provide the growing Asian market
with an increased range of quality feed
and biofuel products as well as the
corresponding service support and knowhow.
The machine program will be increased
by a series of additional products from the
Andritz Sprout global range of products to
supplement both pelleting and extrusion
lines. The products will be designed
to meet the requirements of the Asian
market.

The Andritz Sprout activities in China are
managed by Mr. Richard Hickey, who
after gaining 15 years of experience
in the Asian market, is now heading
the Andritz Sprout expansion plans for
Chinese manufacturing and the enforced
market coverage for the region. In support
of the enforced sales and marketing in
Asia, Andritz Sprout has additionally
engaged Mr. Bjarne Them Jeppesen,
who will support customers, agents and
the Andritz Sprout regional sales
and service offices in the Asian
countries in cooperation with
Richard Hickey.
Further to its facilities in Foshan,
Guangdong province, Andritz
Sprout is operating from its office in
Shanghai, China headed by Mr. Xu
Zheng.

Over 20 pelleting and
extrusion lines in operation
today in Vietnam
In recent years the Vietnamese
aquacultural industry has been growing
rapidly. Vietnam has become a major
exporter of quality fish products. The
Mekon Delta region and southern
provinces together with the area around
the Red River in the north lend themselves
well to cultivating shrimp, catfish and,
more recently, tilapia. With the current
large investments by international and
local entrepreneurs, the trend is toward
integrated large-scale operations,
some with output figures from individual
companies between 0.5 and 1.0 mio. tons
of fish per year. In 2008 the export of fish
products from Vietnam is expected to
reach 1.25 billion USD, i.e. 25% higher
than in 2007.

Vietnam
Andritz Sprout entered the Vietnamese
market some eight years ago. With more
than 20 extrusion and pelleting lines sold
on this market, Andritz Sprout recently
decided to establish its own sales and
service office in Ho Chi Minh City.

The new Andritz Sprout office in Ho
Chi Minh is managed by Mr. Le Quay
Ninh, who has more than 20 years of
experience in the feed industry. Mr. Ninh
shares the office with our Vietnamese
service engineer, Mr. Hung, who has been
operating and servicing Andritz Sprout
equipment in Vietnam for more than six
years.

The Andritz Sprout office “down under”
is located in Melbourne and serves the
Australian and New Zealand markets.
The team consists of general manager,
Mr. Mark Spence, sales Mr. John Sich,
after-sales and service, Mr. Laif Walde,
and order handling, telephonic parts
sales, Mr. Cameron. The Australian office
has a long history dating close to 40
years back. At that time a wide range of
products for the feed industry was made
under the Jaybee and Sprout Waldron
names. Today a number of specialized
products meeting local market demands
are still made in Australia. However, today
the major part of the products is based
on Andritz Sprout European and USA
products. The Andritz Sprout service team
in Australia also supports Asian markets
with professional service carried out by a
well-trained staff.

lines: 1 + 1 = 1
In today’s world of increasing costs of
feed ingredients, energy and labour, feed
producers strive to find cost-reducing
ways. The advantages of economy of
scale in terms of high-capacity lines in
feed production were first discovered by
American integrated meat groups with their
own feed mills, and were later implemented
by comparable feed millers in South
America and Western and Eastern Europe.
The high-capacity lines are now making
Asian feed mills even more successful.
The production lines, particularly those at
the larger integrated poultry and hog feed
producers, have grown from 10-40 TPH and
up to 70-100 TPH.
Reduced capital investment, using
one large production line to do the job
instead of two or three smaller lines,
will mean a relatively small footprint
for the production tower.

Advantages of high-capacity lines:
The largest producer of feeds in Asia, CPF
Thailand, leads the way with their stateof-the-art
pelleting plant at Paktongchai.
The mill has two pelleting lines, type
Andritz Sprout PM1219, mounted with
expander, type Fex42, for broiler feed
production. Each line has a capacity
approaching 100TPH of quality feeds. The
plant is furthermore equipped with one
Andritz Sprout PM919 pelleting line for
specialized feeds. With an output of over
1.0 million tons per year, the plant has
been designed to meet the most stringent

A similar trend towards larger production
lines is seen in the petfood and aquatic
feed industry. It is not that long ago that
the norm for production lines in the aquatic
feed industry was 1-2 TPH. Today the
majority of plants are installing 6-10 TPH
lines, and enquiries now are poised at
20 TPH. Andritz Sprout offers a full range
of extrusion and drying technologies up
to 25 TPH, which has successfully proven
the advantages of high-capacity extrusion
lines in aquatic feed as well as petfood
industries.

A successful strategy on climatic changes
requires an efficient reduction of the CO2
emission into the atmosphere. By way of
example, the 25 EU member countries
used in 2003 a total oil and gas quantity
of 1368.3 MT. According to the Kyoto
Protocol this quantity is to be reduced by
300 MT before the year 2020.
