SHOW DAY SCHEDULE – THOMAS JEFFERSON HIGH SCHOOL <strong>MARCH</strong> <strong>19</strong>, <strong>2011</strong><br />

Friday, March 18<br />
5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Rehearsal - Wear all black.<br />
Saturday, March <strong>19</strong><br />
8 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Rehearsal in Main Gym – Come with your hair half up and gelled. Wear all black.<br />
10:30 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. Students do hair & make-up. Have a small, healthy snack.<br />
11:15 a.m. Parents: Load cars/trucks with props and equipment.<br />
Students: Put on uniform, slip-on shoes, and guard jacket. Bring everything else<br />
with you in your guard bag.<br />
11:30 a.m. Depart <strong>Oakton</strong> HS for Thomas Jefferson HS<br />
12:00 p.m. Arrive at Thomas Jefferson HS<br />
-unload students and props<br />
-wrist bands for students and parents helping with tarp/props<br />
-parents move equipment and props into staging area<br />
12:20 p.m. Parents helping with tarp and props should watch a few guards perform to watch the<br />
other tarp and prop crews.<br />
12:28 p.m. Guard and staff members enter warm-up rotation.<br />
12:45 p.m. Parents helping with tarp and props should be with the tarp and props, moving them<br />
toward the “On Deck” area. You will be right behind the group that goes on before us.<br />
12:54 p.m. On Deck - Students and parents will be at the gym door preparing to enter.<br />
1:02 p.m. Performance Time<br />
1:10 p.m. Finished performing, take tarp and props to “folding area”<br />
1:18 p.m. Parents: Load props, tarp, and equipment back into cars. Take props back to <strong>Oakton</strong><br />
HS and put away in seatrain or guard room. Go home or return to TJ to hang out with<br />
your student.<br />
Students: Change into jeans and show shirt and remain at TJ to watch guards and<br />
participate in the awards ceremony. EAT SOMETHING!<br />
5:13 p.m. Awards<br />
6:15 If required, additional parents transporting students, return to Thomas Jefferson<br />
HS to collect students.<br />
6:15 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Depart Thomas Jefferson HS for <strong>Oakton</strong> HS<br />

Important Reminders for Competition Days<br />
Students will need:<br />
Nail polish-free toes and fingers<br />
Appropriate undergarments<br />
Strap for glasses, if you wear them<br />
Slide on shoes (very important)<br />
Money for dinner/lunch, or bring dinner/lunch<br />
Street Clothing: jeans, show shirt, and guard jacket.<br />
Students may bring their book bag to do homework in the stands after we perform. Student will be responsible<br />
for her bag at all times. There will not be a secure place to leave it.<br />
Mrs. Hovanec will have baggies for money and cell phones. She will keep your belongings while we are performing.<br />
Students should NOT bring:<br />
Jewelry beyond earrings (you won’t be allowed to wear it anyway)<br />
Anything expensive (our belongings will be left alone for at least an hour)<br />
Reminders for parents/guardians, siblings, and friends<br />
We only get 7 wristbands to pass out to you, they will go to the people who drove the students and help with the<br />
tarp/props first. We will not have bands for people not helping, and we might not have enough for everyone who<br />
is helping. This was previously mentioned in the winter guard handbook.<br />
The entrance fee for people without a wristband will be $8-$10 (just a guess based on other contests)<br />
You may be allowed to take still photographs WITH OUT flash. You may be allowed to video tape, but only our<br />
group. If we arrive at the competition and receive different information we will try to pass it along to you. If a<br />
representative from the show tells you that the rules at the show are different, please follow the directions they<br />
give you.<br />
Please be flexible and try to have a sense of humor if anything changes<br />
