From the Library – The Reading Thing
Many thanks for making the Book Fair Safari a success!
This year’s Scholastic Book Fair Safari was a great success on many levels. Over $4,000 worth
of books were sold, and $500 was donated to students to purchase books through the Book Fair’s
scholarship program. The “One for Books” program earned a total of $88, money that is donated to
Toys for Tots and KIDS (Kids in Distress Situations). Congratulations to the 7 th grade who came
in first with donations.
The proceeds of the Book Fair support essential library services, including the purchase of books
and funding an author visit. The Book Fair cannot happen without the help of volunteers. I want to extend a huge thank you
to Kathy Young and Missy Lathon for coordinating this year’s Fair. They are a dynamic team! They were joined by Susan Kelly,
Terri, and a number of student helpers. Many thanks to you all! If you are interested in being part of a committee to run next

Winter reading suggestions
Two popular series at Cal Young are The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan and Twilight by Stephenie Meyer.
If you’ve heard your student mention these books, you might be interested in some of the books on one
of these two lists. The first list is Rick Riordan’s recommendations, which are available in the Cal Young

Next month, I will publish the second list, After Twilight, for students who like
the series by Stephenie Meyer. This list is currently available in the library, thanks
