time for ... SIX FLAGS 2007 OPENING DAY
Fort Worth Star-Telegram (TX) - Saturday, March 10, 2007
Author: ANDREA AHLES, STAR-TELEGRAM STAFF WRITER
ARLINGTON — Today will be a quiet opening for Six Flags Over Texas .
With its newest attraction, the night-time stage show Coobrila, not opening until June 16,
parkgoers might not notice anything different at the Arlington park.
But it's the little things, like painting Mr. Freeze with 398 gallons of red and blue paint
and redoing the asphalt in the Texas section, that crews have been working on during the
off-season.
And to improve the park's family-friendliness, General Manager Steve Martindale said
guests will have new food choices, cleaner park areas and a better overall experience.
"We're really trying to make a dent in our wait times, whether it's for food service or on
the rides," Martindale said, adding that the park will have more staff during peak times
and has installed technology to make rides more efficient.
What's new
The Wii Experience. Starting in April, parkgoers can test their video-game skills on
seven Nintendo Wii consoles.
Cirque Dreams Coobrila. The nighttime stage show will feature acrobats, contortionists
and other circus-type performers in the newly renovated AT&T Music Mill
Amphitheater.
Aquaman Splashdown. The old Splashwater ride will get a new entrance and theme,
renamed after the Justice League character.
What's new for food
Panda Express and Cold Stone Creamery. The two chains will have locations on the
park's north side.
Johnny Rockets. The park's old Chubbie's restaurant will be converted into the '50s diner
chain that Six Flags Chairman Dan Snyder bought last month.
Healthier fare. The park will eliminate trans fats from most of its food but not funnel
cakes.
Want to join the circus?
The park is looking for acrobats, gymnasts, electric violinists and dancers for Cirque
Dreams Coobrila. Auditions will be Saturday at the Omni Mandalay Hotel at Las Colinas
in Irving. Dancer auditions start at 10 a.m. The rest of the auditions, such as for singers
and gymnasts, are scheduled for 2 p.m.
The cost of it all
For the first time, Six Flags is offering a combo season pass for the water park and the
theme park for $109.99, $40 less than buying both passes separately.
General admission is $47, up $2 from last year. Admission for children 4 feet or shorter is
still $34.99. Individual season passes are up $4 to $79.99.
Parking prices range from $15 for regular parking to $30 for valet.
What's happening
The park is open daily through March 18 for spring break. After that, it is open only on
weekends until its full-time season begins May 11. And starting June 16, the park will
stay open an hour later, until 11 p.m.
