Straw Towers<br />

This project is to teach students how to<br />

work as a team to achieve a common goal. Each<br />

team will work productively together to con-<br />

struct a tower made entirely of plastic straws.<br />

Students will have to use problem solving skills<br />

to make their tower sturdy and strong to support<br />

itself. This assignment will also help students<br />

learn about group dynamics and how<br />

to create a successful team.<br />

Paper Cars<br />

Students will learn how to make an elec-<br />

trical circuit systems. Students will make a<br />

small paper car and attach small LED lights<br />

onto the car, then using a computer interface<br />

they will program<br />

the LEDs. This as-<br />

signment will allow<br />

students to enjoy<br />

hands-on and inter-<br />

active learning.<br />

Rocket Bottles<br />

Students will need to use problem solving<br />

skills to design and create their very own rocket<br />

bottle. The challenge of this assignment is to create<br />

a sturdy rocket bottle that will reach astounding<br />

heights but will also protect an egg carefully placed<br />

inside. Students will learn about the different<br />

forces responsible for the propulsion<br />

and drag of their<br />

rocket and how aerodynamics<br />

play an important role in the<br />

flight of<br />

the bottle<br />

rocket.<br />

A u t o C A D<br />

(software developed by<br />

Autodesk) is one of the<br />

leading programs for<br />

two and three dimen-<br />

sional design and drafting. Students will learn how<br />

to view and draw objects from different angles and<br />

will be educated on how to find the most effective<br />

perspective to draw two and three dimensional ob-<br />

jects on this program.<br />

AutoCAD<br />

CO2 Cars<br />

3D Studio Max<br />

3D Studio Max (software developed by<br />

Autodesk) is one of the leading programs for three<br />

dimensional animation and design. Many of the top<br />

rated movies, animations, and games have been cre-<br />

ated using this amazing program and students will<br />

now be able to explore this new world of 3D anima-<br />

tion for themselves!<br />

Students will be<br />

given several as-<br />

signments that will<br />

allow them to learn<br />

about modeling,<br />

rendering, and ani-<br />

mation.<br />

Students will learn<br />

about the engineering proc-<br />

ess used in the designing and building of a CO2<br />

propelled race car. Students will have to balance<br />

variables such as friction and weight of the car<br />

while designing and building their dragster for<br />

racing in a school safe environment with teacher<br />

supervision. The main objective of this assign-<br />

ment is to make a CO2 that will blaze down the<br />

track faster than anyone<br />

else’s!
