As hundreds of Greenies
filed into the gym, the sound of
cheers and the marching band
filled the room. Green could be
seen from every angle. Students
impatiently waited in anticipation
to see the classes of FMHS go head
to head, the cheerleaders’ new routines,
and Mr. Drew lay down some
of his famous improvised beats.
The rally started with an introduction
of our revered football
stars. After some classic Greenwave
cheers, and the unavoidable
Freshmen boos, it
was time to see which class
would come out on top in an
intense game of tug-o-war.
from these festivities benefit
the school. This year, Bennett’s
donuts, Love Boat Ice Cream,
Chick-Fil-A, Famous Dave’s
Bar-B-Que, Southern Sno
Balls, and many others provided
food. Various activities also
took place such as tug-of-war,
a dunk tank, a pull-up bar, face
painting, and water balloon
toss. Taste of the Greenies was
definitely a hit again this year!
The Freshmen stood no chance
against the Juniors, who couldn’t
help but celebrate. When it came
down to Sophomores and Seniors
it was a close game but Seniors
triumphed. The final showdown
between the Juniors and Seniors
brought the crowd to their feet. It
seemed to go on forever but the Seniors
walked away victorious. This
rivalry was soon followed
by everyone’s favorite in-
school rapper, Mr. Drew, who blew
up the gym with his clever rhymes
and words. Who wouldn’t cheer for
him?! This amazing pep rally was a
great way to kick off the school year
and set up for an epic win against
Lehigh. Way to get your green on!
The boundaries of the imagination are
endless. Mrs. Autry teaches AP and HL art
and is very proud of her students saying,“The
work is hard, but the student always rise to
the occasion.” When asked what she thinks
are qualities that make a piece of art stand
out, she said, “It has to mean something. It
evokes a feeling and gets to you emotionally.
The piece has to give you a reaction. IB and
AP art is important,” she continued, “and
it reaches a lot of students.” Later, when
asked what was the most interesting art she
had ever seen, Mrs. Autry replied, “It was
in Paris at the Musée d’Orsay. The impressionist
work just blew me away; to see it for
real rather than just pictures in a book.” Mrs.
Autry’s students make some really amazing
artwork. Ann Pritchard and Amber Russo
do their artwork with colored pencils. “Their
work is just phenomenal,” says Mrs. Autry.
Also, Jessica Miller creates art videos that
“look completely professional.” Here are a
few examples of her students’ artwork. These
pieces definitely fall under the category of
excellence.
Photography:
From an Artist’s Perspective
What makes a good photo? Is it
the angle, the lighting, the color,
the model, or a mixture of
all of those combined? What
separates a professional picture
from something done by the
average person? Mrs. Toalson,
the photography teacher here
at Fort Myers High, describes a
good piece as, “Something with
authenticity, a balance of tones,
contrast, and the perfect composition.”
caused a game delay. As usual, the boys
have lost by a field goal, the rain did not
Bump! Set! Spike! Speaking of Volleyball,
our Lady Wave Varsity volleyball team tore up
the court with an undefeated record this season.
Going 23-3, the volleyball team had a strong season
led by seniors Kenzi Gustason, Whitney Letourneau,
Danielle Matte, and Emily Gear. The
highly anticipated games against Bishop Verot
started, as well as ended, the season with a victory
when the girls crushed the Vikings in three
straight sets. Tough games at the beginning of
the season against disctrict rivals including
ECS and Riverdale also resulted in wins for the
Greenwave. So far in the post-season, the Lady
Wave team won the district title in a great game
against Riverdale. The team hopes to make it all
the way to the state championship! Please make
sure to congratulate the girls on a great season,
and support them at their post-season games!
OUTSTANDING
LEADERSHIP
By Alexis Walker
Marching Band Leadership Camp had
to have been the best 5 days of my summer.
On the field we learned basic commands
and responses and got a chance
to learn the different things that other
schools did with their bands. We would
eventually combine all of the different
things and perform a routine with our
groups at the end of camp’s Pass & Review
ceremony. After, we got a chance
to work with some of the former Chiefs’
Drum Majors as well as the current
Drum Major. We had a three hour class
on conducting techniques, character
building activities, and learning what
exactly is expected of a LEADER. There
were nights where we watched movies,
took tours of the campus, attended music
recitals and even a bowling night.
Every day of the week pretty much
consisted of the same things; waking
up extra early, walking miles in the hot
sun, and loving the burn of your calves
walking up 5 flights of stairs. The days
at camp would eventually build up to
the final moments at Pass & Review. At
the ceremony, we showcased what we
learned to our family and friends as a
group and all received a certificate for
completing what could have been the
most disciplined and educational days
of everyone’s summer. Award time
came around and I had the honor of
receiving the “Most Outstanding Drum
Major” award. Being at camp really
gave me an opportunity to learn new
things and grow as a Drum Major as
well as an individual. Marching Band
has really given me some great memories
and I couldn’t be any more grateful.

to shine, to feel small in the grandeur
hard to contain your generosity.
July 24 – August 23
Gemini – “The Twins” – This
month try to keep your flirtatious
nature in check. Use
your excessive energy to focus
on your academics and school
spirit. Remember to be flexible
with scheduling your social
and family life. Remember,
both are important to you!
May 21 – June 21
Aries - “The Ram” – Your energetic
personality is contagious this month.
Just what the Green Wave is counting
on to keep victory spirit alive. Confidence
in your academic successes
will continue to prosper as the year
progresses. Aries you are known to
be impatient, relax and enjoy the moment,
especially if you are a Senior!!
March 21 – April 19
Scorpio - “The Scorpion” – You
will be very passionate this
month about romance. Try
not to get too jealous, if your
love interest is looking over
your shoulder. Jealousy is not
your best quality. Emotions
will prevail this month with
the “Green Wave” victories.
October 23 – November 22
Libra - “The Scales” – This month
show off your romantic side! Be a part
of the social scene here at Fort Myers
High School. You will be sure to find
your soul-mate. However, remember
balance is very important to you. Try
to keep at least one eye on the books!
September 23 – October 22
Taurus – “The Bull” – This month
try not use your horns. Be gracious
to everyone in your path.
Kindness will pay off. The Green
Wave is consistently victorious.
The football team is feeling the
pressure, to keep the lead. Try
not to be too greedy and show
some respect to the losing teams.
April 20 – May 20
Pisces - “The Fish” – This
month try to continue your
good nature demeanor and
go with the flow. Check
your grades, you may be
surprised to find yourself
in the spotlight. A/B honor
roll is in your future. Use
you generous heart to lend
a hand to someone in need.
February 20 – March 20
Sagittarius - “The Archer of
the Centaur” – This month
your restless nature will get
the best of you. Try to stop
being so superficial regarding
your Up-coming Birthday, which
is two months away. Go out of
your way and show your optimistic
team spirit very Friday
night. See you at the game!
November 23 – December 21
Aquarius - “The Water Carrier” – Make
splash this month with your creative flair.
Think of a charity event to spur on financial
support to help out the less fortunate in the
community. Even though, you have a caring
nature you have a tendency not to be so emotional
towards the ones closest to you. Make
an effort to express kindness to your “bestie.”
January 21 – February 19
I Guess You’ll Have to Do
I wipe the blood off your chin where her hand took a swipe
Straighten your stance and tie “Yes, you look real nice.”
You wear that saucy hat at the angle I prefer
She’ll scowl and readjust it ‘til it sits poorly on your curls
“I guess you’ll have to do.”
He deserves better than you, woman
But he deserves better than me too
Those starry Kentucky nights, pinpoint bodies in the fog
You conduct like gravity, spinning star-struck dust with your
song
Your fingers dance the keyboard, my voice rises pitching fowl
I’ll match you note for note, my heartbreak’s synthesized howl
“I love this song!”
She doesn’t even know the effing words
And you’ve sung them all to her
I am your darkened moon, I won’t reflect your rehearsed smile
Practiced carefully in the mirror, fluorescent staged guile
I revolve unseen in limelight, she’s only falling for stars
When you come to rest in the crater of the airless bar
“This is Jamie.”
Who the hell is Jamie
She’s riding your comet coattails.
Listen carefully for where you might be when she leaves you
behind again
At two am when you call “I’m lost, and there’s blood on my
chin.”
You’ve come to earth my crumbling comet, in her favorite
abandoned pits
Your moon, I’ll bring the cooling tide to your whispering
shoreline lips
“Where is Jamie?”
“Lets get you home.”
“I guess you’ll have to do.”
A Dead Rose Still Grows
Sit down and listen to this piece of prose,
If you're more dead inside than a browning rose,
Now calm down and enjoy the show,
And maybe your dead rose will grow.
Come on, kid, get off of that ledge,
Pull your sanity away from the edge,
I know that now you think you're done,
But let me assure you you've just begun.
I don't know the reason you're here,
But it doesn't matter, have no fear,
Maybe there's a break up leaving you shaken up,
Or a dead relative, now your heart's in a cup.
I'm not going to tell you to stop,
But your life is an ever-ripening crop,
All you need to do is take the opportunity to harvest,
You need to learn to drink from your own golden goblet.
This is for nerds, losers, and gays fresh out of the closet,
Don't throw away your life, think of it as a deposit,
It might be low now, but it's going to grow,
All you have to do is stick around for the show.
We've all had a suicidal thought,
But do we act on them? I think not,
So put your pills back in the drawer,
There's so much more in life to explorer.
Place the knife back in there with the other silverware,
Because I promise someone out there truly does care,
Please just sit back, relax, and listen to the very last line,
Don't kill yourself, because you've got so much more time.
