9.3 Detailed Mounting Conditions<br />

Cold epoxy mounts were made with 15 parts resin and 2 parts hardener and set to<br />

harden for at least eight hours prior to removing from <strong>the</strong> holder. Mounts were used<br />

Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) secondary electron imaging as well as X-Ray<br />

Diffraction (XRD) analysis. Samples could also be prepared by being glued to resin<br />

mounts using Krazy® glue for simple polishing using <strong>the</strong> automatic polisher. Samples<br />

would <strong>the</strong>n be demounted by use <strong>of</strong> acetone prior to electropolishing, for analysis by<br />

Electron Back-Scattered Diffraction (EBSD).<br />

9.4 Detailed Polishing Conditions<br />

Struers® Automatic Polisher was used for polishing prior to SEM imaging, XRD<br />

analysis and electropolishing for EBSD. It was important to clean <strong>the</strong> sample surface<br />
