The mission of the External Relations <strong>and</strong> Governing Bodies<br />

(EGB) Cluster is to build <strong>and</strong> reinforce partnerships <strong>and</strong> alliances<br />

for health. Strong alliances are essential to the development of a<br />

more dynamic <strong>and</strong> influential organization. Key partners are<br />

Member States, international <strong>and</strong> regional organizations, civil<br />

society, the private sector <strong>and</strong> the media.<br />

The work of the EGB Cluster focuses on:<br />

• Establishing <strong>and</strong> nurturing partnerships <strong>and</strong> promoting liaison<br />

<strong>and</strong> cooperation with outside bodies to highlight the critical role<br />

of health in development;<br />

Identifying <strong>and</strong> facilitating the mobilization of critically needed<br />

financial resources. This includes renewed efforts in the public<br />

sector <strong>and</strong> more intensive, creative collaboration with the private<br />

sector;<br />

Supporting the effective working of the Executive Board <strong>and</strong><br />

the <strong>Health</strong> Assembly, <strong>and</strong> providing high quality translation services;<br />

Promoting coherence <strong>and</strong> cohesiveness in the work of the <strong>Organization</strong><br />

across Geneva Clusters, Regional Offices <strong>and</strong> Country<br />

Offices, particularly in the area of technical cooperation with<br />

Member States.<br />

Centers for Disease Control <strong>and</strong> Prevention<br />

The Centers for Disease Control <strong>and</strong> Prevention (CDC)<br />

endeavours to make people healthier <strong>and</strong> safer domestically <strong>and</strong><br />

abroad. As the leading federal agency protecting the health <strong>and</strong><br />

safety of persons living in the United States <strong>and</strong> citizens travelling<br />

abroad, the CDC works with partners in the United States <strong>and</strong><br />

the international community in general to put science into action<br />

through reliable information to enhance health decisions;<br />

developing <strong>and</strong> advocating sound public health policy;<br />

implementing prevention <strong>and</strong> preparedness strategies;<br />

promoting healthy behaviour; fostering safe <strong>and</strong> healthful<br />

environments, <strong>and</strong> providing leadership <strong>and</strong> training.
