Mrs. Williams and Ms. Kirby, for their gracious, flexible and patient acceptance in having me be
a part of their classrooms. They are the kind of teachers that make inclusion fun as well as easy
for the students
Ms. Holmes
Kiki Holmes
Delores Mitchell
You guys are angels! Thanks for working so hard to work with us in the classroom. Your work
is invaluable and greatly appreciated.
Mrs. Aldridge
Sergeant Whitfield is always willing to help wherever possible. He never has a problem with going
the extra mile. He usually has given a matter attention before he even shares it with you.
There has never been a time that all hands were on deck and I had to look for him. He is usually
full of solutions versus a concentration on problems.
Mr. Mays
Greeting to the Dunbar Middle School staff and students. I want to
thank you for such an awesome start of school . I am very excited to
see all the learning going on in the classrooms and students who are
engaged and taking responsibility for their learning.
I am challenging the students of Dunbar Middle School to build
upon the foundation that has been set of achieving at high standards.
This can only be accomplished by being at school every day, paying
attention and participating in class, and doing what is expected of
you – daily. I believe in you and I expect you to shine like the stars
Mrs. Crystal Goodman
I am grateful to the staff members who represent Dunbar Middle School. Your dedication to the students
and community goes above and beyond what is required. I thank you for adding “glitter” to the
many stars who walk the halls and sit in your seats and allowing their light to shine even brighter.
We have had two great academics years, but I believe the best is yet to come!
Best Wishes for the 2009 – 2010 School Year!
A message from
Mrs. Goodman
President
Obama
Speaks
to
Students
On Tuesday September 8, 2009 the
students at Wakefield High School in
Arlington, Virginia along with other
school children across the country eagerly
awaited the controversial speech
given by President Obama. His back to
school speech was directed at the
school children of the United States
encouraging them not only to stay in
school but strive for excellence.
Obama chose to talk about
school because he genuinely cares
about our education. He wants us to
understand that education opens many
doors that would perhaps be
closed. We have the ability to become
innovators or inventors to come up
with the next new thing.
"You've got to work for it and practice
for it and learn for it", he said. "What
you make of your education will decide
nothing less than the future of this
country. What you're learning in school
today helps with challenges in the
future."
He also talked about other kids
who aren't very different from us
that have hard times.
"They faced challenges in their
lives just like we do. These students
refused to give up. They chose to
take responsibility for their education
and set goals for themselves. I
expect all of you to do the same,”
said President Obama.
"I'm working hard to fix up your
classrooms and get you the books,
equipment and computers you need
to learn. But you've got to do your
part too. I expect you to get serious
this year and I am expecting great
things from each of you, so don't let
your family, your country, or yourself
down."
It saddens me that this simple address
to America’s school children
created so much controversy. Is he,
the President of the United States of
America, going to say something so
bad to us, that some parents would
actually object to us hearing it? As
much as our country has grown,
there are still people out there who
will never change. Though the students
at DMS didn’t get to hear the
speech live, we were given the opportunity
to listen to parts of the
speech in our social studies class.
There’s no doubt; the
stars are out. Team
Orion students are
bursting with brightness-
reading and
(Angela Johnson), studying about native Texans,
completing independent research projects in science
class, and creating and analyzing tables and
graphs in math class. Team Orion is definitely
celebrating the stars with academics, rigor, and
relevance
Andromeda recently
attended the Math and
Science Fall Festival.
We’ll come up with
some kind of team
introduction!
Mr. Brown did a superb job connecting subject
matter to real life experiences. The 7 th grade
novel referred to a reggae singer by the name of
Bob Marley. He provided his students with a
sample of Marley’s music accompanied by the
lyrics. This experience broadened their
knowledge of other genres or styles of music.
Mr. Jackson is at the door! Mr. Jackson has
called and visited the homes of many students
because of his commitment to ensure that all
students will receive a qualitative and quantitative
education.
Both teachers are true examples of highly
qualified teachers! Go team Pegasus!
Can You Guess Who I Am?
I’ve been teaching here for ten years. Some of my hobbies
are watching sports and going to sport events. The
one thing that I would do besides
teaching would be a sports broadcaster. My favorite thing
to do is travel with my family. I have eight brothers and
sisters. My very first job was at a Recreation Center. My
most favorite family memory is when I took my family to
Disney World. My favorite food growing up was red
beans and rice. I love the color green. I went to college at
West Texas State, and my most favorite memory was
playing college basketball there.
Middle School Drama
People make a big deal
Out of clothes and shoes
You’re judged by your friends
It’s the good ones you must choose
Kids think too much
About what other people think
And when they’re told they’re wrong
Their esteem starts to shrink
But this year I stopped caring
Go ahead, think what you want
You think you’re so special
Go ahead and flaunt
Following isn’t cool
Go be your own person
If you listen to these people
Your own life will start to worsen
Peer-pressure is everywhere
But it’s best if in life it’s
Ignored
There’s a whole world out there
Waiting to be explored
Middle School Drama
And a not nice world
Is no reason to get yourself all twirled
Don’t Judge me
By: Marcia Holloway
Don’t judge me for the color of my skin
Judge me for what I’ve done in life
Don’t judge me for what I’ve done wrong
Judge me for what I’ve done right.
I’ve done all I can do, just to please you
But you’ll never understand,
I’m not superman
I refuse to judge people, so why judge me?
I’m not perfect as you can see
I’ll try my hardest to be the best
Just don’t judge me and I’ll handle the
rest.
