OLYMPIC WELCOME HOME PARADE
Thirty very lucky Sports Academy students were invited by the Victoria Olympic Council and the office of
the Premier to be a part of the televised Olympic Welcome Home ceremony in Federation Square recently.
Our students marched out with placards depicting each Olympic sport with members of the London
Olympic tem marching behind. The students were able to mingle with the Olympians before and after the
ceremony and received autographs and memorabilia on the day.
A highlight of the nationally televised event was when the Premier announced in his speech that
Maribyrnong Sports Academy was the home of our future Olympic stars!
PIERRE DE COUBERTIN WINNER - JOSEPH YIGIT
The Pierre De Coubertin Award is a joint recognition between schools, the Department of Education and
Early Childhood Development (DEECD) and the Victorian Olympic Council.
It recognises one student from each nominating school who have played school sport as well as
demonstrating the ideals of the Olympic movement. (Sportsmanship, fair play, participation) The award is
for senior students only.
A selection panel at the College judged that our 2012 De Coubertin Award winner is Joseph Yigit
(Volleyball) after staff nominated him along with other
candidates including Brad Moore, Hannah
Wright, Hiep Do, Jacob McCormack and Tevin
Singh (All Year 12).
Joseph received his award from the Victoria
Olympic Council at a Sunday presentation at
MSAC recently
