COUNSELOR'S CORNER: This is the season for course selections for the upcoming school year. This
week your student should have brought home a course selection sheet to review and for a family
discussion selecting courses and the levels of courses for the 2013-2014 school year. Core teachers have
advised and signed next to the level of course they feel is appropriate based upon your student's
demonstrated work ethic this year. After a candid discussion with your student, please make your final
course selections and sign the registration form. These forms should be turned in to the Grade Level
Offices by February 27th.
For further information and clarification about the process there is a power point with voice over and
elective course videos on the school home page. After the registration forms have been submitted and for
the next month, Counselors will be seeing all students individually to discuss the transcript and selections
for next year. In late April you will receive a verification of the courses that have been input and all
selections can be changed until May 10, 2013. May 10th is the last date that a change in course selection
or level of course can be requested.
BAND: Four TWHS Band members--Niki Patel, Alyx Henderson, Chris Torrisi and Dawson Riggs-participated
in this year's Texas Music Educators Association convention last week in San Antonio. After
a rigorous audition process through Region and Area last fall, these four individuals were selected as
Texas All-State musicians in early January to compete against other all-state players from across the state
for chair and ensemble placement during the convention. The TMEA convention was held Feb. 13-16.
We are very proud of all four students who prepared and represented TWHS at a very high level! Chris
Torrisi, a junior tuba player and first time all-stater, earned 3rd chair in the state of Texas. Dawson Riggs,
a two-time all-stater and percussionist, placed 14th overall amongst the percussionists. Niki Patel, a flute
player who has made all-state three times, placed 5th chair out of all Texas 5A flutes and performed as
principal flute in her concert band. Chris, Dawson and Niki all performed as members of the top
Symphonic Band. Alyx Henderson, four year all-state horn player, placed 1ST OVERALL in the state of
Texas! She performed as principal of the top symphony orchestra and was recognized as a distinguished
soloist at the end of the concert.

Thank you for your support of these fine musicians who have dedicated countless hours to their talents.
Making all-state in Texas, and especially at the 5A level, is the single hardest thing to do as a high school
musician. They deserve our congratulations.
