COUNSELOR’S CORNER - Counselors are wrapping up classroom visits regarding pre registration for
next year. Please keep in mind the decisions made during this process are binding ones. On the senior
campus counselors will be seeing students individually to go over the completed course selection sheet
and verify all graduation requirements have been chosen. A verification sheet of the selected courses will
be sent home. After turning the pre-registration forms in, changes can be made until May 15, 2009.
Change requests should be made in writing and signed by both the parent and student. After May 15,
there will be no adjustments to the schedule unless: a student does not meet the pre requisite or is
academically obviously misplaced or if a student fails and must repeat a course. The master schedule and
teacher hiring is based upon student requests. We work very hard to offer the courses our students need
and want and to be able to do so adhere very firmly to this change deadline and policy.
We encourage all students to challenge themselves academically and take advanced courses. If a student
desires to take an advanced level course and has not demonstrated in previous coursework the ability to
be successful, a Student/Parent Agreement form is available in the grade level offices. This is a signed
commitment by the student and parent to do what is necessary to be successful in the advanced level
courses. Once an agreement has been signed, the student will remain in the advanced course for a
minimum of nine weeks. Changes at that point can only be made if the student has been unable to master
the course and providing there is space available in the level course of that subject.
A parent meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 10 for all Rising 10th, 11th and 12th grade parents to
review the Pre-registration information. The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. in the senior campus auditorium.
This presentation as well as the course description book will be available online in the Counselor's Corner
of the TWHS website, www.woodlandshigh.org. There will also be a parent help night on February 24th
from 4 - 7 p.m. in the cafeteria.

one defeat. In late January, the varsity team recorded atypical results (1-1-1) at the Kingwood tournament.
After trailing 2-0 at half time against Coppell (Dallas), the Highlanders recorded an exceptional
performance for scoring three goals in a five minute spell, notching up a 3-2 win. In that game, with five
minutes remaining to full time, Sophomore Conner Mowery placed the ball into the net following a
scramble at the Coppell goalmouth. Then with over two minutes left, Senior Andrew Norman's leveled
after he received a cross-field pass from Senior Jordan Phillips. The Highlanders varsity team has since
recorded a loss against College Park (0-1), a tie against Kingwood (0-0), and a win against Elsik (3-0)."
HIGHLANDER BASKETBALL - The Boys Varsity Basketball team is still fighting for a playoff spot.
We lost 2 tough games last week as College Park and Oak Ridge both beat us. In the College Park game
Aaron Porter led us in scoring with 10 points and we lost two players for the Oak Ridge game. Wes Cole
unfortunately has a foot injury that will keep him out for the rest of the season and Emmanuel Rivera
sprained his ankle against College Park and was unable to play against Oak Ridge. He will return for
Tuesday night's game at Conroe. We need to win at least one game this week to assure ourselves of a
playoff spot but we have the tough task of going to Conroe Tuesday and then to Lufkin on Friday. If you
can, please come to these games and cheer us on for a playoff run.
The Highlander Boys JV Basketball team continues its tear through district. Last week the JV
Highlanders beat College Park and Oak Ridge in consecutive home games to run their record to 7-0 in
district and 24-3 overall. The Highlander program will travel to Conroe and Lufkin this week before
finishing the regular season at home, Tuesday February 16th, versus New Caney.
The Sophomore team is closing out its season strong, currently holding a 23-4 overall record and leading
the district with a 6-1 mark. The team has two games remaining this season and looks to continue their
success this week against Conroe and at home next Tuesday versus HCYA.
The Green team advanced their district record to 5-2 last week with a 54-33 win over Oak Ridge. Ken
Legassey was the leading scorer with 13 points. Nolan Cass and Colton Wilkins each had 8 points.
home 52-61. Drew Black and Travis Barton were two offensive and defensive stand outs. We next
played New Caney and beat them 56-38. Some players who stood out were Stew Gettys, Brian Eurich,
Mitchell Ruffer, and Austin Emery. We then started the second round of district with College Park. The
Red team lost to them 59-48. Alex Rawls and Colin McLellan both had a good game. Our last game was
against Oak Ridge. We defeated them 70-18. David Culver, Gonzalo Roque, Brennan James, and Stew
Gettys played outstanding in our victory. We are looking to win our last three games for a shot at the
district title.
