LADY HIGHLANDER FASTPITCH SOFTBALL - <strong>The</strong> Lady Highlanders kickoff the 2009 season<br />

with tryouts on Monday, January 26th and Tuesday, January 27th. Tryouts on both days will begin at<br />

3:00pm. Anyone wishing to tryout should bring cleats, glove, and bat and must attend both days. Girls<br />

must have a physical be<strong>for</strong>e tryouts. If you have any questions please contact Coach Jorgensen at the<br />

TWHS Campus.<br />

CHOIR NEWS - Congratulations to the following students who earned membership in the Texas All-<br />

State Choir. This achievement places them in the top 2% of all high school singers in Texas. <strong>The</strong>y earned<br />

membership after four elimination rounds of auditions.<br />

<strong>The</strong>se singers will travel to San Antonio February 11-14 to rehearse and per<strong>for</strong>m at the Texas Music<br />

Educators Convention.<br />

SPEECH, THEATRE, AND DEBATE - Congratulations to Laura Jackson and Brad McCoy, Chris<br />

Dean and Sebastien York <strong>for</strong> placing 3rd in Public Form and qualifying <strong>for</strong> the State TFA Tournament.<br />

Congratulations to Will Rogers and Erica Rascon <strong>for</strong> placing 3rd in Duet Acting! Will and Erica are two<br />

points away from qualifying <strong>for</strong> the State TFA Tournament.<br />

<strong>The</strong> debate team swept the top three places at the UIL district debate tournament. Laura Ann Wojtczak<br />

and Laura Thompson took 1st place, Devon Hersch and Casey Nice took 2nd place, and Michael Kiel and<br />

Scott Henry took 3rd place.<br />

FOOTBALL HONORS <strong>–</strong> Following an outstanding season, postseason honors have been pouring in <strong>for</strong><br />

Highlander football players. Listed below are the various recognitions our players and coaches have<br />

received:<br />

14-5A ALL DISTRICT TEAM - First Team All District Defense honors were awarded to Loren Baker,<br />

John Michael Cochran, Colin Renton, Ryan Clapsaddle, Aaron Charbonnet, Ryan Eastman and Ben<br />

Pruitt. Named to the First Team All District Offense were Chad Lindsay, Brad Roberge, Logan Rowe,<br />

and Ryan Eastman. Senior Chase Maires was recognized as the 14-5A Defensive Co-MVP, and the<br />

Offensive MVP went to senior Andy McCloud. Offensive sophomore of the Year honors went to Daniel<br />

Lasco and Head Coach Mark Schmid was named Coach of the Year. Named to the District 14-5A<br />

Second Team were Cameron Knight, Adam Sibal, Robert Bouthilet, Randy Knust, Nick Adamo and Alex<br />

Tweedy. <strong>The</strong> following Highlander players received Honorable Mention recognition: Clay Latimer, Sean<br />

Finney, David Flook, John Norton, Ryan Cusimano, Rob Irvin and Cory Michalak.<br />

Other honors earned by Highlander players included two being named to the 2008 All Greater Houston<br />

Team. Senior Chase Maires was selected to the First Team Defense, and junior Chad Lindsay was named<br />

to the Second Team Offense. Both Maires and Lindsay earned the same recognition at the state level by<br />

making the 2008 All-Texas teams. Sophomores Daniel Lasco and Ben Pruitt were named to the All-<br />

Texas Sophomore team.<br />

<strong>The</strong> All Montgomery County team also included numerous players from TWHS. Andy McCloud, Chase<br />

Maires, Logan Rowe, Ryan Clapsaddle, Chad Lindsay, Colin Renton, John Michael Cochran, Loren<br />

Baker earned first team honors. Ryan Eastman was the All-Purpose Player of the Year and Daniel Lasco<br />

was the Newcomer of the Year.<br />

Thirteen players were named to one of the State Farm 5A Academic All-State Teams. First Team<br />

honorees include John Michael Cochran, Sean Finney, Cameron Knight and Greg Merchant. Chris
