RUGBY HONORS - Junior Ryan Kretchmar has made the Junior US National Rugby Team. He will be<br />
competing this <strong>spring</strong> in the Junior World Cup in England.<br />
PERSONAL & FAMILY DEVELOPMENT - <strong>The</strong> Personal & Family Development classes at TWHS-<br />
9th grade campus participated in a cooking competition based on the Iron Chef of America television<br />
show. <strong>The</strong> "Aluminum Chef" competition required the students to use all their cooking skills learned in<br />
the class to produce 3 food items based on a secret ingredient. Administrator and faculty representatives<br />
served as judges. <strong>The</strong> prepared food was judged based on its texture, taste, and appearance. <strong>The</strong> winners<br />
of the competition were named at the end of each class period. 2nd Period winners are Al Castellanos,<br />
Paul Marie, Raleigh Prahl, and Spencer Willey. 3rd Period winners are Faith Bohack, Christina King,<br />
Bria Sumuel, and Kristin Van Ness. 4th Period winners are Claire Allison, Monicke Carvalho, Lauren<br />
Fenska, Riley Price, and Kelsey Wells. Congratulations to all students who made this competition a huge<br />
success!<br />
ART NEWS - Congratulations to the art students who participated in Conroe ISD's annual western art<br />
exhibit on Saturday. Two students placed in the top three among high school students and they will have<br />
their work judged again at the 2009 Houston Livestock and Rodeo Show. Mackenzie Dawson placed<br />
2nd, earning Gold Medal honors and Katherine Eisner placed 3rd, with Special Merit honors. <strong>The</strong>y will<br />
have their work prominently displayed in the Show’s Hayloft Gallery throughout the run of the Show in<br />
March . During the Show, approximately 50 pieces of art, as determined by the Grand Prix Judging, are<br />
auctioned and the students will have the opportunity to earn scholarships. <strong>The</strong> School Art Program,<br />
which began in 1964, has more than 300,000 entries each year.<br />
You are invited to <strong>The</strong> Woodland High School’s “Ann Marie Hopkins Art Alliance” monthly art booster<br />
club meeting tonight at 6:30 in the library. Parents, faculty members, support staff, alumni and interested<br />
community members are encouraged to attend the meeting. <strong>The</strong> primary goals of the Ann Marie Hopkins<br />
Art Alliance are to support the Art Students and the Art Department of <strong>The</strong> Woodlands High School<br />

LADY HIGHLANDER SOCCER - <strong>The</strong> girl’s varsity soccer team opened up their season this weekend<br />
by hosting one of the top tournaments in the state here at TWHS. We were the host to 24 girls teams that<br />
were in three 8 team brackets. <strong>The</strong> Woodlands girls varsity beat Episcopal 8-0, Clear Lake (state semifinalist<br />
2008) 1-0 in shootout, Austin Westlake 2-1, and Deer Park 3-0 in the finals. Outstanding play by<br />
junior goal keeper Mallory Garthwaite, senior <strong>for</strong>ward Olivia Kintigh, junior <strong>for</strong>ward Meghan Gibbons,<br />
junior midfielder Kylie Cook, sophomore midfielder Hannah Stanifer, senior midfielders Kelsey Bass and<br />
Teresa Sorrentino, sophomore defender Natalie Kintigh, junior defenders Sara Ellis, Kelsey Missimer<br />
and Natalie Johnson, and senior defender Jennifer Wallace. We had great play off the bench by freshmen<br />
Emily Taylor, sophomores Claire Watson and Kelsey Langham, juniors Molly Missimer and Cristina<br />
Mendoza, seniors Gina Santangelo, Ashley Kelm, Kate deShetler, Mary Lippa, Kristy Creasman and<br />
Frankie Bizer. We scored 13 goals over the weekend and only gave up one on a Penalty Kick. Our<br />
leading scorers <strong>for</strong> the weekend were Kylie Cook with 6 goals and Olivia Kintigh with 3 goals. <strong>The</strong> girls<br />
will be back in action this weekend at the Katy I-10 Tournament.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Lady Highlander JV teams will be in action home on Tuesday Jan. 13, 2009 at 4/5:30/7:30pm and<br />
again at the Katy I-10 JV Tournament this weekend.
