<strong>The</strong> Freshmen Red Team demolished Lufkin with a final score of 83-25. <strong>The</strong> Freshman Red Team has<br />

finished preseason with a 56-26 win over HCYA. <strong>The</strong>ir record is a perfect 22-0. <strong>The</strong>y have also taken<br />

home 1st place in all three of their tournaments with Maghen Lormand, Ashlyn Hargraves, and Kara<br />

Evans earning All Tournament honors.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Freshmen Green Team has finished preseason with a 6-2 record.<br />

NATIONAL ENGLISH HONOR SOCIETY <strong>–</strong> NEHS is looking <strong>for</strong> "a lot of good men and women" to<br />

join us. Our <strong>spring</strong> membership drive will begin January 20th and end February 6th. Application <strong>for</strong>ms<br />

will be in the wall folder between rooms 212 and 214. Also, any junior members who want to "shadow"<br />

an officer, learn more about that position, and consider running <strong>for</strong> office <strong>for</strong> next year, come and sign up<br />

in Room 214 (Dr. Emmons' room). We are also looking <strong>for</strong> sophomores who are interested in working on<br />

public relations and communications between NEHS and TWHS communities. <strong>The</strong>se positions often lead<br />

to election as officers as juniors and seniors. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, February 3rd. We look<br />

<strong>for</strong>ward to growing and doing more as an honor society.<br />

SUMMER READING - This is a reminder to all students enrolled in an English class next <strong>semester</strong> to<br />

either read (if you haven't already done so) or review the summer reading assignment. All students<br />

should expect a test over summer reading the first week of class. <strong>The</strong> summer reading assignments are:<br />

SWIMMING & DIVING <strong>–</strong> Both the boys and girls swimming teams are off to fast starts this year. At<br />

the Dual in the Pool meet against five other quality teams, the Highlander swimmers and divers came out<br />

on top against every school. Competing in the meet in addition to <strong>The</strong> Woodlands High School were San<br />

Antonio Churchill, Cinco Ranch, Kingwood, Seven Lakes and Katy Taylor. GREAT JOB!<br />

GOLF NEWS <strong>–</strong> Senior Ryan Kelley has signed a national letter of intent to play college golf at Texas<br />

A&M University. Ryan helped <strong>The</strong> Woodlands High School to a runner-up finish at the 2008 state golf<br />

tournament. He advanced to match play at the 2007 tournament. U. S. Junior after winning a qualifier<br />

played in North Dakota. Ryan has posted five top-20 finishes in AJGA events, including a 16 th place<br />

ef<strong>for</strong>t at the AJGA Championship at Traditions played in Bryan. “I am really excited about Ryan and his<br />

future at Texas A & M,” Aggie Coach Higgins said. “Of all the players we considered to join our team,<br />

Ryan has the most potential and I think he is going to be an outstanding college golfer. He is the top<br />

player <strong>for</strong> one of the best high school programs in the country and his coach, Steve Cribari, knows what it<br />

takes to compete at this level. Ryan has had great coaching to this point and it is really starting to show in<br />

his game and scores,” Higgins said. “He is one of the best players in the state of Texas, he has been<br />

successful on the national level and I think he will be even more successful on the collegiate stage.”<br />

KEY CLUB <strong>–</strong> <strong>The</strong> first Key Club meeting of 2009 will be held on Monday, January 12 at 6:30 in the<br />

LGI. Come join us to learn about events <strong>for</strong> the new year.
