Michelle Gorospe<br />

Access Services <strong>Librarian</strong><br />

Law Library<br />

Michelle was appointed to the Law Library in June, <strong>2010</strong>, when<br />

she earned her <strong>UCLA</strong> M.LI.5. degree specializing in Law<br />

<strong>Librarian</strong>ship. Michelle worked in the Law Library as Stacks<br />

Supervisor (2006-10) as a <strong>UCLA</strong> undergrad, moving from a<br />

student assistant to a half-time staff position. Before <strong>UCLA</strong>, she<br />

worked in a law firm and had extensive supervisory experience.<br />

Michelle's interests in preservation and archives led her to work<br />

on preservation projects with Jennifer Lentz, Law Library Head<br />

of Collection Development; to intern with Jake Nadal, <strong>UCLA</strong><br />

Library Preservation Officer; and, to compile an inventory of the<br />

Law library's Special Collections in a Bibliographic Services and<br />

Collection Management Department internship. Michelle will<br />

implement the Law Library's first preservation program and<br />

develop online finding tools for archival collections at the Law<br />

Library, plus supervise the creation of several digital archives.<br />

As a grad student, Michelle was awarded the SLA Sternheim<br />

Memorial Scholarship, SCALL Scholarship, <strong>UCLA</strong> Graduate<br />

Opportunity Fellowship, and the ALA Spectrum Scholarship.<br />

Recent scholarships enabled attendance at the California Rare<br />

Book School (Summer, <strong>2010</strong>) and the Rare Books & Manuscripts<br />

Section's ALA preconference (June, 2011).<br />

She joined the Southern California Association of Law Libraries'<br />

(SCALL) Committee on Public Access to Legal Information<br />

(PAll), and volunteered for ALA's Discovering <strong>Librarian</strong>ship<br />

project. Michelle has been appointed to LAUe's Ad Hoc<br />

Committee on Mentoring and SCALL's Library School Liaison<br />

Committee, and is working on a LibGuide of legal resources for<br />

non-lawyers.<br />

Simon Lee<br />

Reference, Instruction, and Technology <strong>Librarian</strong><br />

College Library<br />

Simon began work at the College Library in October, <strong>2010</strong>.<br />

His previous employment includes: Reference/Instruction<br />

<strong>Librarian</strong>, part-time, at Mt. San Antonio College (from January<br />

to Septem ber <strong>2010</strong>); Library Assistant (digital) at the <strong>UCLA</strong><br />

Oral History Department (2007-2009); and, Undergraduate<br />

Student Assistant, JFK Memorial Library Reference<br />

Department, CSULA (2002-2005).<br />

Simon earned an M.LI.S. degree from <strong>UCLA</strong> (2009), and a S.A.<br />

degree with an emphasis in Computer Animation from the<br />

California State University, Los Angeles (2005). As a <strong>UCLA</strong><br />

graduate student, he interned at CSULA in Reference and<br />

Special Collections (2008-2009).<br />

Simon holds professional memberships in the American<br />

Library Association, New Members Round Table (NMRT); and,<br />

California Academic & Research Libraries (CARL), in the<br />

California Academic Reference <strong>Librarian</strong>s Discussion Interest<br />

Group (CARLDIG), the California Academic & Research<br />

Libraries Information Technology (CAR LIT), Diversity in<br />

Academic Libraries (DIAL) South, and the Southern California<br />

Instruction <strong>Librarian</strong>s (SClL).<br />

Simon's interests have included working at the Rae Lee<br />

Siporin LGBT Library at <strong>UCLA</strong> and participating in Library &<br />

Archive OUTreach, a Department of Information Studies<br />

student organization (he was Vice President, 2007-08, and<br />

President, 2008-09). He is a big fan of tennis.
