GEA Mechanical Equipment
Original Parts Designed for a Precise Purpose
Peace of mind
Original Parts from GEA Westfalia Separator are
designed specifically for our separators and
decanters and they are process-specific. This
applies to the parts’ dimensions, material and
manufacturing process. Safety is further ensured
by mechanical tests, chemical analyses and testing
of corrosion resistance. During production, precise
hardness and surface tests guarantee long-term
reliability. Trust original parts from GEA Westfalia
Separator for the highest standards in safety
and quality.
Always at your side
GEA Westfalia Separator has six regional offices
throughout the US and Canada, strategically
located for rapid deployment of service technicians
24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If major components
such as bowls and scrolls cannot be repaired on
site, GEA Westfalia Separator maintains a stock of
replacement or loaner parts to keep equipment up
and running. Repairs are then made in the shortest
possible time at either our West Coast or East Coast
factory-authorized repair facilities.
Protecting your investment
A centrifuge from GEA Westfalia Separator is a
valuable investment that will more than pay for
itself in performance and productivity over the
course of its useful life. Only parts from the original
manufacturer will protect that investment and
maintain production at full capacity. Centrifuges are
subject to extreme operating conditions, including
very high speeds and extreme loads. Therefore parts
must have the correct mechanical strength and
perfect fit for both the duties they need to perform
and to protect the life of the equipment.
An Incalculable Risk: Non-Original Parts
Liability problem: Civil and criminal law
Enormous forces are developed in centrifuges.
When machines are rotating at speeds of up to
20,000 times gravity, everything has to be perfect.
The use of lower quality, non-original parts to save
money is often achieved at the expense of safety.
If the use of sub-standard parts causes people to
be injured, the courts institute proceedings on the
grounds of bodily harm and in certain cases on the
grounds of manslaughter. In addition, labor laws
throughout the world are becoming increasingly
stringent, as are the efforts to enforce these
standards. GEA Westfalia Separator considers it part
of its duty to draw attention to these safety issues.
Every responsible company has to carefully consider
the use of non-original parts in safety-sensitive
areas. In the final analysis, the fact that lower
quality spare parts are often subject to higher levels
of wear means that no savings are actually achieved.
Safety committee maximizes standards
Several decades ago, GEA Westfalia Separator
established a safety committee. The committee deals
with safety matters that may arise from corrosion,
vibrations, wear and other causes inherent in the
processes in which centrifuges are used. Equipment
is continuously scrutinized and tested to ensure
that potential problems are resolved. Owners of
our equipment benefit from a technical safety
standard that is second to none and is constantly
being improved.
Certified safety is better
Installing non-original parts in sensitive centrifuge
equipment is counterproductive. The costs that may
result are much higher than the potential savings.
Moreover, the operator no longer has the guarantee
provided by GEA Westfalia Separator – possibly for
the complete machine, not just the installed part.
There is also a risk of down-time, the loss of the entire
machine, and an incalculable risk of injury that can
lead to civil and criminal lawsuits. Installing lower
quality components in a GEA Westfalia Separator
machine causes uncontrollable weak points in an
otherwise perfectly tuned product.
Every Part is Key to a Productive and
Safe Operation
Gaskets: square rings,
gasket combinations
Special seals are designed specifically
for the respective bowl geometry,
the separated product and
the prevailing conditions. These
requirements can only be determined
after many years of experience and
extensive tests done in conjunction
with strict quality standards.
Special materials combine with the
specific geometry and corresponding
tolerances to ensure long-term,
smooth operation of the centrifuge.
Clutch shoes
Starting time, power transmission,
temperature, ejection intervals and
motor speed are all factors that must
be taken into account for the selection
of material. Each factor has an effect
on the service life of the clutch shoes,
which are most heavily loaded during
start-up and bowl discharges, when
temperatures of up to several hundred
degrees prevail in the clutch.
Polyamide gaskets
(the main seals of the bowl)
These gaskets are manufactured by
a specifically developed production
process and are chosen according to
the field of application, the operating
conditions and the product to be
separated. Steady testing and decades
of experience ensure long service.
Gearbox and drive components
Due to the particularly high
transmission ratios of the worm
wheel gearing, GEA Westfalia
Separator specializes in the required
calculations and has established its
own production techniques. The
necessary tolerances for the bearing
seats, the geometry of the worm
spindle and the matching of materials
are also designed for the specific
application and the heavy loads they
will encounter in use.
Clutch driver, clutch pulley
Because of the way clutch drivers are
designed, high tangential stresses
occur during operation. These
stresses can be managed by the use
of properly matched materials and
designing the fine tolerances that
are required. Special stress tests are
conducted to determine the fatigue
limit of all components. This also
applies to the clutch driver which
is made of material that has exactly
the right friction ratio with the
clutch shoe.
Bearings
Bearings are of utmost importance.
All factors must be precisely
considered during the design of the
drive system, including dynamic load,
temperature, speed and tolerances.
The correct bearing choice in a
complete system requires intensive
testing and cannot be implemented
with standard off-the-shelf bearings.
Lubricants and oils
The wrong oil type or viscosity will
result in inadequate lubrication.
Lubricants and oils recommended
by GEA Westfalia Separator have the
ideal properties for each application,
such as EP additives, water absorption
capacity, and defoamers.
Flat belts
Flat belts used by GEA Westfalia
Separator are specially designed to
meet all technical criteria including
power transmission, belt length and
tension, temperatures, bearing loads,
start-up times and motor power.
Fastening elements
In a complex decanter or separator
that operates at extremely high
speeds, not a single screw can be
loose. To ensure a long life and
peak performance from your
machine, the use of original GEA
Westfalia Separator parts is strongly
recommended.
Hard metal inserts and
rubber mounts
Hard-metal inserts and rubber
mounts from GEA Westfalia
Separator are specially manufactured
and stored to ensure safety while the
machine is running at full operating
speeds.
Scrolls
In most cases there is little
visible difference between original
parts from GEA Westfalia Separator
and copies. Unfortunately, the
difference often becomes apparent
when it is too late. The original
scrolls installed in decanters
from GEA Westfalia Separator
measure up to our high standards.
They pass through extensive testing
procedures before being approved
for use.
