Slobodanka Dana Kathrin Tomic Dipl.-Ing. Dr. techn
January 2013
Project Leader in Grid Responsive Energy Efficient Networked Homes (GREEN HOME), FTW
collaborative project
The Project GREEN HOME (Grid Responsive Energy Efficient Networked Home) was a national
collaborative application-oriented research project (FTW, 4 industrial partners, one university,
~900 kEuro budget) focusing on energy management in the home environment (home micro-grid)
with the responsive flexible demand based on (1) advanced ICT technology (e.g., home gateway,
service platform, intelligent appliances, in-home networking, smart metering, and technology for
pervasive user engagement) for realization of smart home energy management, (2) smart metering
and demand response concepts for flexible responsive loads, and (3) simulation and experimental
methodology for quantitative evaluation of new load flexibilization scenarios.
Responsibilities
- project coordination
- concept design for demand management and demand responsiveness, consumer modelling and
consumption forecasting
- simulation methodology development for market-based energy trading in micro-grids
- coordination of demonstrator and simulator implementation
- student supervision
- outreach, dissemination and integration (11’2010, FTW Workshop on Intelligent Energy with
international academic and industrial participation, the International Energy Symposium (IEWT
2011), European Energy Markets Conference in 2011 and 2012, Special session on Smart
Homes in the FDL 2012 Conference, GreenTech’13)
01.2010-12.2011 Activity Leader in Next Generation Home (GENIO), Celtic+ Project
09.2009-11.2010
04.2011-09.2012
The Celtic Project Next Generation Home (GENIO) was a European collaborative research project
that developed and demonstrated advanced technologies for home networking and management of
heterogeneous home services and devices. FTW provided a concept and implementation of the
autonomous energy management based on semantic technology and smart plugs which was
integrated within the home service platform and demonstrated at Celtic Event in 2011. The local
GENIO activities were supported by the GREEN HOME project.
Responsibilities
- concept development and integration
- coordination of implementation
- student supervision
Project Co-leader and Activity Leader in SESAME: Semantic Smart Metering; Enablers for Energy
Efficiency, funded by Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG)
The project SESAME was an international collaboration project (partners from Austria, Russian
Federation, Serbia) with special focus on application of Semantic Web technologies in engaging
end consumers in energy efficient and low carbon consumption. It developed a flexible technical
solution that integrates various home sensors (light, temperature, humidity), home automation
control, touch screen display, a smart meter, and a software platform for home energy control based
on semantic modeling of user energy consumption preferences and home management policies and
semantic reasoning. The system actively assists end-consumers in making well-informed decisions and
performs control of the system.
Responsibilities
- design of the project proposal
- concept and semantic methodology design for ontology and knowledge-based control
- coordination of implementation
- outreach and integration
- assessment of results and dissemination
- student supervision
Activity Leader in SESAME-S: Semantic Smart Metering; Services for Energy Efficiency, funded by
Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG)
The project SESAME-S (SESAME follow-up) had a special focused on energy data integration for
add-value data-intensive services. One particular special interest of SESAME-S is to understand and
exploit the benefits of linked open (energy and economic) data and data integration in mobilizing
different stakeholders to contribute to energy efficiency goals. The project also set up several realworld
energy management trials at partner premises including a school and a factory. The installation
and evaluation of the SESAME-S management system in the school “HAK Kirchdorf“ are performed
