Cloud Nine again hit the fashion runway in April for MBFW, styling for iconic<br />
Australian fashion label Easton Pearson.<br />
Making a historic return to the fashion week<br />
runway, the established brand presented a ‘hyper<br />
real’ collection in an intense fusion of colour and<br />
super nature. Prints jumped off the background<br />
and decorative elements appeared in 3D with<br />
shimmering, other-worldly sculptures in<br />
macro scale.<br />
Cloud Nine Brand Ambassador Renya Xydis in<br />
her role as Hair Director, headed up a professional<br />
and talented team of Cloud Nine stockists and<br />
session stylists. The futuristic hair inspiration<br />
was born from the Collection itself, ‘50’s inspired,<br />
but if feels more like 2050’ as briefed by<br />
designer Lydia Pearson.<br />

completed by applying intense pigmented<br />

Cloud Nine continued its association with iconic Australian fashion label sass&bide<br />
in February, sending Cloud Nine Ambassador and celebrity stylist Renya Xydis to<br />
London for yet another inspirational London Fashion Week show.<br />
Describing the Autumn/Winter collection as “strong, Cloud Nine stylists. Each stylist was chosen to<br />
fresh and modern” the designers and names behind<br />
the brand, Sarah Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton<br />
showcased streaming waterfall skirts, wide-legged<br />
floor skimming pants and tailored tuxedo capes all<br />
in a monochromatic colour scheme accented with<br />
the vibrancy of canary yellow.<br />

we channeled the essence of the aesthete- people like oscar Wilde, Karl Lagerfield and tom ford to create a story that<br />
blended masculine and feminine shapes to create a vision of the modern woman. We took iconic classic styles like the<br />
page boy and the fingerwave and gave it a thoroughly modern, effortless edge.<br />
in today’s day and age, the modern woman demands versatility. We used the cloud nine Micro Wand to create all the<br />
hairstyles within this and demonstrate the creative capability of this innovative tool. We want to push the boundaries of<br />
what ‘styles’ hairdressers envision when they look at the Micro Wand and provide a styling instrument that can take you<br />
from a windswept tousled finish to a curly paigeboy and then into a sleek fingerwave within a singular session of styling.<br />

Moroccanoil continues to scoop the hair awards<br />
pool, recently adding to their trophy cabinet in the<br />
New York office. ELLE Magazine voted Moroccanoil<br />
Frizz Control a winner in their <strong>2013</strong> International<br />
Beauty Awards from a pool of thousands of<br />
international beauty products. More awards recently<br />
hailed from New Zealand, with the Original Treatment<br />
being voted ‘Best Treatment’ by NZ Fashion<br />
Quarterly readers.<br />

Haircare Australia would like to share something<br />

Recently we donated money and got behind a<br />
cause to raise money for a documentary called<br />
Legacy: A ride to conquer Motor Neurone Disease,<br />
being made to raise awareness for by a dear friend<br />
of Lauren McCowan's who has dedicated the next<br />
couple of months to telling the story of two amazing<br />
humans who have been diagnosed with Motor<br />
Neurone Disease, and have decided to spend the<br />
time while they are able to bring more awareness to<br />
a disease that anyone can get and is impossible to<br />
cure or treat.<br />
This disease has very little awareness, research or<br />
money directed towards it because it is so baffling.<br />
The Motor Neurone Diseases are a group of<br />

March in the UK. The Cloud Nine Wide Iron was<br />

for Cloud Nine who in 2012 were awarded “Best<br />
Curling Tong’ for The Original Wand.<br />
HELP SUPPORT RESEARCH FOR<br />
MOTOR NeURONe DISeASe<br />
neurological disorders that selectively affect motor<br />
neurons, the cells that control voluntary muscle<br />
activity including speaking, walking, swallowing, and<br />
general movement of the body. They are generally<br />
progressive in nature, and cause increasingly<br />
debilitating disability and, eventually, death.<br />
They are cycling on a two person, custom bike for a<br />
million metres to raise awareness for research and<br />
funding. One of them will be cycling with his arms<br />
because after 6 months post diagnosis- has already<br />
lost major movement in his legs.<br />
They started a Pozible project to raise $60,000 to<br />
raise money for the documentary and they met that<br />
goal raising $66,815. Motor Neurone Disease, still<br />
needs our support for research to find out more<br />

has signed Katie Holmes as the new face of the<br />
brand. Also joining the brand as a co-owner, Katie<br />

and retail partners.<br />

called luminoso, which in Spanish means<br />
luminous. the hair structure is sculptural,<br />

With Summer well and truly over our clients are looking to go deeper and richer for winter and remove<br />
the traces of tired highlights or brassy blonde colour. A great tip for creating a shimmery deeper<br />
"stretch" effect is the mixing the following lakmé formula:<br />
RE-GROWTH: Equal parts of Collage 8/60 with 8/20 and 10 Volume Hydrox Developer. Apply colour<br />
to the roots stretching it down through the mid-shaft of hair. Process for 30 minutes<br />
ENDS: Mix gloss equal parts of gloss 0/00 with 9/30 and 1.9% long lasting Developing Emulsion.<br />
Apply gloss to the remaining hair and process for the remaining 15 minutes of colour.<br />
RESuLT: Minky soft beige root area and softer glossy mid-lengths and ends.<br />

TAKES TO THE SKIES<br />
Moroccanoil partnered with famed international<br />
stylist Alan White recently to present the new<br />
Qantas uniform at a 600 strong prestigious event.<br />
Held at historic Hordern Pavilion in Sydney’s eastern<br />
suburbs, the event was host to celebrities, media,<br />
Qantas frequent flyers and global partners.<br />
Following the 2012 announcement of Martin Grant<br />
as the uniform’s designer, the uniform release was<br />
much anticipated and talked about within Australian<br />
fashion circles. Martin Grant is an Australian<br />
designer living in Paris, having called the French<br />
capital home for the past twenty years. He is one<br />
of a revered group of Australian designers who are<br />
asked to present at the official Paris Fashion Week.<br />
The uniform collection was presented as a full<br />
fashion runway show lead by Qantas Ambassador<br />
and all round Australian icon, Miranda Kerr.<br />
Celebrities in attendance included Cate Blanchett,<br />
Peter Morissey, Laura Csortan and Kate Cebrano<br />
who were delighted by the synergies of the fresh<br />
and contemporary uniforms with the polished,<br />
modern and exceptionally well groomed hair styles<br />
of the models.<br />
“Martin Grant spoke to me about keeping the<br />
aesthetic of the ‘Qantas in flight crew image’ but<br />
wanted to loosen it up a little. His designs have a<br />
slight retro feel to them in an ultra modern way. He<br />
wanted to free up the Qantas woman and give her<br />
a less corporate feel and help create a fresh new<br />
attitude,” said White. “The hair needed to be up and<br />
back and the style needed a slight aerodynamic<br />
feel without it looking uptight or sprayed stiff into<br />
place. Think Grace Kelly meets actress Tippi<br />
Hedren in Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘The Birds’, a style that<br />
has polish, sophistication with a slight retro feel. It<br />
should look like she has done it herself as opposed<br />
to it being styled by another”.<br />
Exclusively representing Moroccanoil, White lead a<br />
team of ten professional stylists who created three<br />
unique and versatile well groomed styles using<br />

Cloud Nine again hit the fashion runway in April for MBFW, styling for iconic<br />
Australian fashion label Easton Pearson.<br />
Making a historic return to the fashion week<br />
runway, the established brand presented a ‘hyper<br />
real’ collection in an intense fusion of colour and<br />
super nature. Prints jumped off the background<br />
and decorative elements appeared in 3D with<br />
shimmering, other-worldly sculptures in<br />
macro scale.<br />
Cloud Nine Brand Ambassador Renya Xydis in her<br />
role as Hair Director, headed up a professional and<br />
talented team of Cloud Nine stockists and session<br />
stylists. The futuristic hair inspiration was born from<br />
the Collection itself, ‘50’s inspired, but if feels more<br />
like 2050’ as briefed by designer Lydia Pearson.<br />
The result was a whipped up frenzy of colourful hair,<br />
piled high on top of the models’ heads that perfectly<br />
complemented the retro chic fashion collection<br />
and magical catwalk show. The artfully dishevelled<br />
‘up-do’ was inspired by Hitchcock heroine Tippi<br />
Hedren’s icy blonde French roll in ‘The Birds’.<br />
Renya created the look using TheO Pod by<br />
Cloud Nine for maximum volume and to build<br />
the sculptural shape of the roll. The look was<br />
completed by applying intense pigmented colour<br />
and spray.<br />

TAKES THE RUNWAY AT LFW<br />
Cloud Nine continued its association with iconic Australian fashion label sass&bide<br />
in February, sending Cloud Nine Ambassador and celebrity stylist Renya Xydis to<br />
London for yet another inspirational London Fashion Week show.<br />
Describing the Autumn/Winter collection as “strong,<br />
fresh and modern” the designers and names behind<br />
the brand, Sarah Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton<br />
showcased streaming waterfall skirts, wide-legged<br />
floor skimming pants and tailored tuxedo capes all<br />
in a monochromatic colour scheme accented with<br />
the vibrancy of canary yellow.<br />
The show stopping designs were contrasted by a<br />
chic and barely there beauty look. Flawless, almost<br />
wet-looking skin was paired with Renya Xydis’s<br />
messy, sexy, ballerina bun. “ I wanted to create<br />
something that felt young and carefree – the key<br />
was messy, matt texture. I used TheO Pod by<br />
Cloud Nine to give volume and then added more<br />
shape with The Original Wand before messing it all<br />
up with styling powder and pulling it back into the<br />
deconstructed bun’, Renya explained.<br />
Supporting Renya in preparing 30+ models for<br />
the show was newly appointed Cloud Nine Global<br />
Creative Director Leigh Keates and a team of ten<br />
UK based Cloud Nine stylists. Each stylist was<br />
chosen to work on the show for their expertise in<br />
styling and love of the Cloud Nine brand and tools.<br />
Presenting the slender and elongated lines we<br />
have come to associate with the sass&bide label,<br />
the front row, packed with celebrities were happily<br />
instagraming their favourite pieces and chatting<br />
about how they would style the collection to put<br />
their own spin on the look. Socialite and street<br />
style star Olivia Palermo and UK pop star Paloma<br />
Faith were among the famous faces as well as<br />
Cloud Nine founder Robert Powls and executive<br />

Burberry has stepped away from its usual romantic side for an edgier vibe using the<br />
legendary Christine Keeler as muse, bringing a 60’s twist to the collection.<br />
To complement this feminine collection, lead stylist, Neil Moodie, created a natural<br />
and polished look with a sensual element using Moroccanoil products.<br />
Step 1- Part the hair slightly on the right side of the<br />
head - just off the centre - to create a very natural<br />
side-parting.<br />
Step 2- After applying Moroccanoil Treatment to<br />
prepare the hair for styling, apply Moroccanoil<br />
Volumizing Mousse (Coming Soon) at the roots,<br />
to give a more textured, fuller look.<br />
Step 3 - Using a Moroccanoil Ceramic Brush,<br />
blow-dry the hair to achieve a rich and healthy look<br />
with volume.<br />
Step 4 - Lightly back comb the roots at the crown<br />
area of the head. Spray it with Moroccanoil<br />
Luminous Hairspray and leave it to dry for a few<br />
moments. Once dry, brush out the back combing.<br />
This process will leave the hair looking even<br />
plumper at the roots but with a very natural feel.<br />
Next, use a large curling iron and wrap sections of<br />
hair around the barrel for a few seconds to create<br />
a lose wave. Blow-dry the hair again through the<br />
whole head to loosen the waves and create very<br />
subtle movement within the hair.<br />
Finally, mist the hair with Moroccanoil Glimmer<br />

of the head will result in more fluid shapes when<br />
building a style. Set the Micro Wand to HIGH.<br />

THE YEAR <strong>2013</strong><br />
Bill Tsiknaris from Tsiknaris Hair in New Farm took<br />
top honours for QLD at the Australian Hair Fashion<br />
Awards Monday the 15th of April in Sydney when<br />
he was announced QLD Hairdresser of the Year<br />
<strong>2013</strong>. The title makes it back to back wins for Bill<br />
having also been awarded the title in 2012. The<br />
judging panel rewarded his creative styling and<br />
cutting precision in his powerful collection titled<br />
Latex Babes.<br />
“I went to the awards ceremony not expecting<br />
too much and so I’m honoured and extremely<br />
humbled to be awarded the AHFA QLD Hairdresser<br />
of the Year title for the second year running,” Bill<br />
Tsiknaris said.<br />
With more than 28 years experience in the hair<br />
industry and a household name in Brisbane circles,<br />
Bill Tsiknaris’ Latex Babes collection was inspired by<br />
the rising power of women from the 1960’s through<br />
to today.<br />
“Latex Babes represents women of the modern<br />
era; strong, confident, independent. It is a very<br />
bold collection and I continue to strive to push<br />
the boundaries and challenge myself and what is<br />
possible with hair,” Bill Tsiknaris said.<br />
Now in their 19th year, the annual Australian Hair<br />
Fashion Awards are the pinnacle in industry awards<br />
on the hair and beauty calendar. Known for the<br />
international judging panel, the awards recognise<br />
and celebrate the talent of the industry’s top<br />
hairdressers, makeup artists, salon managers,<br />
fashion stylists and photographers. The best of<br />
the best from across Australia submitted<br />
photographic collection entries showcasing their<br />
creative talent in the hope of receiving the industry’s<br />
highest accolades.<br />
Younger brothers, Dimitri Tsiknaris and Chris<br />
Tsiknaris, also from Tsiknaris Hair, accompanied Bill<br />
to the AHFA event in Sydney as finalists themselves<br />
in the QLD Hairdresser of the Year and Australian<br />
Creative Colourist of the Year categories.<br />
From here, Bill Tsiknaris will continue his role as<br />
Australian Ambassador and Educator with US hair<br />
brand, Alterna, travelling around Australia sharing his<br />
skills and knowledge with the next generation of hair<br />
stylists. He will also continue to mentor and build<br />
the capabilities of his talented team of Stylists and<br />
Colourist at Tsiknaris Hair.
