Total Raffinaderij Antwerpen is the largest, most complex refinery in the Total
group, and the second largest refinery in Europe. Thanks to our location in
the port of Antwerp, we can export products by sea-going vessels, barges
and pipelines.
Total Raffinaderij Antwerpen is an important link in the integrated petro-
chemical complex of Total, which refines crude oil into plastic.
Mammoth tankers unload the crude oil at Rotterdam in the MET terminal.
This crude oil, with both high and low sulphur content, is pumped to Antwerp
through the RAPL pipeline and is processed in the refinery and turned into high-quality products such as petrols, diesel
and kerosenes for the European and American market, and into base products such as naphtha, butane and aromatics
for the petrochemical industry. These base products are transformed by Fina Antwerp Olefins in steam crackers into light
components such as ethylene, butadiene and propylene. At Total Petrochemicals Antwerpen the ethylene is polymerized into
polyethylene. The propylene is sent via a pipeline to Total Petrochemicals Feluy, where it is polymerized into polypropylene.
