AGENDA

AFTER ESONET MEETING
•How do we keep a collaboration after the end of ESONET NoE?
This question is central to any Network of Excellence supported by the European
Commission. ESONET has launched two main initiatives in this direction: EMSO
infrastructure included in the ESFRI roadmap and supported by EC for a Preparatory Phase
and the VISO discussed during the previous session.
This last plenary session of the General Assembly week will offer the opportunity of a review
of the commitments of each partner of ESONET in the future and share any idea of joint
initiatives.
1. Commitment through EMSO (13:45 – 14:25)
The representation of all institutes in EMSO Preparatory Phase is done through one partner
per nation in EMSO PP (11 partners -all partners in Esonet NoE- from 11 countries). They
have funding Agency mandate, and representing other institutes (NOCS/UAberdeen,
INGV/CNR-INFN-CONISMA, Ifremer/CNRS,…)
The “After Esonet meeting” will:
Discuss representation by each EMSO PP partner of national involvement
Address list of potential associated partnership in EMSO ERIC
Address list of potential regional actor of EMSO ERIC
Address the case of newcomers (Plocan, Plymouth Marine Institute, Chyprus,
ENSIETA, IMR Bergen, Romania partners,,…) who could be associated partners to
EMSO ERIC and/or VISO members.
2. Formal groups and working groups were established by Esonet. What are their plans for
continuation of the activity? (14:25 – 15:05)
Scientific Committee and Scientific Work Package (WP3)
Technical and Operational Committee as well as programming capabilities shown for
the Demonstration missions of WP4
PESOS (Providers of Equipment and Services for Observatory Systems)
Esonet Yellow Pages
ESONET Label
Smart sensor group
Underwater intervention group
Test and calibration group
Legal group
Outreach and ESONET web sites, ESOnews.
…
What are the perspective of continuation: in VISO, at international level, through existing EC
projects, through new projects to be launched, etc?
3. Status of sustained Esonet regional groups. (15:05 – 15:45)
For each Esonet site, a group of scientists and stakeholder has been identified or constituted.
The status of these groups in the future will range from the constitution of legal entities to
lobbying groups.
An update will be made site by site to orientate the groups for a sustained operation in favour
of the fixed point long term observation of European seas.

A questionnaire is sent to the group leaders, it will be commented and discussed during the
“After Esonet meeting”.
