Every application (warehouses, industrial spaces,...) demands a specific light control strategy. You can<br />

apply MDS per luminaire, but a master-slave mode is also possible. Sensors can be linked, so you can<br />

ELM is an integrated system for light control and energy management. The addressable dimming and<br />

switching function, combined with the user-friendly control software, allows ELM Lite to react dynamically<br />

to the constantly changing light situation in a building. With ELM, you save energy, reduce<br />

your CO 2 emissions and improve your personal lighting comfort. More information about ELM, you<br />

can find in the 'Catalogue 2011-2012' p 249-250.<br />

ELM Lite is a 'light' version of this system, suited for smaller buildings, up to 1500 m². The functions<br />

and components of ELM Lite are basically identical to those of ELM, except for the Energy Control Unit<br />

(ECU).<br />

ECU Lite<br />

The Energy Control Unit Lite (ECU Lite) is the central processor of the ELM Lite system. The ECU Lite<br />

EasyDim can be used for various applications. Each of these applications has specific requirements<br />

in terms of light control. EasyDim can be supplied with one of the standard application modes. These<br />

modes use different parameters, which are set according to the application requirements. Excellum<br />

What action should EasyDim take when the device is energised e.g. after a power failure?<br />

Possible settings:<br />

OFF: EasyDim keeps the luminaires switched off for the first 20 seconds. Then EasyDim switches<br />

Movement and insufficient daylight? The luminaires are switched on.<br />

No movement? The luminaires remain switched off.<br />

ON 1 : EasyDim switches on the luminaires when the power comes on.<br />

No movement? The luminaires are switched off after five minutes.<br />

MAxIMUM SUSTAINABILITY IN EMERGENCY <strong>LIGHTING</strong><br />

Ever since <strong>ETAP</strong> was founded in 1949, sustainability has been one of our key priorities. <strong>ETAP</strong>'s<br />

deliberate environmental policy is firmly anchored in our mission. In the development of our products<br />

we focus on their high efficiency and low ecological impact. This commitment is reflected in our ISO<br />

14001 certification and the <strong>ETAP</strong> sustainability report.<br />

USE DETERMINES ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF EMERGENCY <strong>LIGHTING</strong><br />

A detailed life cycle assessment of our emergency lighting luminaires shows that daily use accounts<br />

for over 95% of the total environmental impact. Daily use means not only the energy usage, but also<br />

the production and replacement of the battery and lamp.<br />

CADMIUM BAN<br />

Emergency lighting is one of the exceptions to the general European cadmuin ban, because no<br />

alternative battery technology was available at the time this European Directive was adopted. In the<br />

meantime, however, nickel metal hydride batteries (NiMH) have become a genuine alternative to nickel<br />

cadmuin batteries (NiCd) in emergency lighting. Not only are NiMH batteries cadmuim-free, they also<br />

use less energy and are 50 % more compact.<br />

<strong>ETAP</strong> emergency lighting with LEDs is always equipped with NiMH batteries. Now, <strong>ETAP</strong> has decided to<br />

also switch to NiMH batteries for its emergency lighting luminaires with fluorescent lamps,<br />

From now on, the fluorescent lamp versions of the following luminaires will only be available with<br />

NiMH batteries:<br />

Smart Guidance is a system that guides large groups of people to their destination in an intelligent<br />
