ELM is an integrated system for light control and energy management. The addressable dimming and 

switching function, combined with the user-friendly control software, allows ELM Lite to react dynamically 

to the constantly changing light situation in a building. With ELM, you save energy, reduce 

your CO 2 emissions and improve your personal lighting comfort. More information about ELM, you 

can find in the 'Catalogue 2011-2012' p 249-250. 

ELM Lite is a 'light' version of this system, suited for smaller buildings, up to 1500 m². The functions 

and components of ELM Lite are basically identical to those of ELM, except for the Energy Control Unit 

(ECU). 

ECU Lite 

The Energy Control Unit Lite (ECU Lite) is the central processor of the ELM Lite system. The ECU Lite 

can magnage up to 300 nodes (sensors, actors, DALI devices, etc.) and therefore particularly suited 

for projects up to 1500 m².

APPLICATION MODES 

EasyDim can be used for various applications. Each of these applications has specific requirements 

in terms of light control. EasyDim can be supplied with one of the standard application modes. These 

modes use different parameters, which are set according to the application requirements. Excellum 

uses the following parameters: 

occuPAncy 

How does your lighting react when movement is detected? Do you wish to switch manually 

or automatically? 

smArt tImer 

Time by which movement detection is extended when movement is detected during the 

dimming period. 

bAckgrounD level tImer 

Number of minutes during which EasyDim keeps the luminaires at dimmed level before 

switching them off. 

DAylIght overrIDe 

In case of daylight-dependent control: if sufficient daylight is present, EasyDim will not switch 

on the luminaires upon detection of movement.

Determines whether luminaires may be dimmed upon detection of sufficient daylight.

Determines which luminaires are to be switched off when sufficient daylight is present.

settings. These settings depend on your personal and technical project requirements.

Power uP stAte 

What action should EasyDim take when the device is energised e.g. after a power failure? 

Possible settings: 

OFF: EasyDim keeps the luminaires switched off for the first 20 seconds. Then EasyDim switches 

to normal operation. 

Movement and insufficient daylight? The luminaires are switched on. 

No movement? The luminaires remain switched off. 

ON 1 : EasyDim switches on the luminaires when the power comes on. 

No movement? The luminaires are switched off after five minutes. 

bAckgrounD level 

Depending on the application, the luminaires are dimmed to background level after a preset 

period. 

Possible settings: 10% - 20% 1 - 30% - 40% - 50% - 60% - 70% 

InfrAreD grouP 

Each EasyDim can be assigned its own infrared group address, allowing you to control a specific 

group with the desired remote control.

EasyDim can make sure that lamps are not dimmed during the first 100 burning hours, as often 

specified by the supplier.

MAxIMUM SUSTAINABILITY IN EMERGENCY LIGHTING 

Ever since ETAP was founded in 1949, sustainability has been one of our key priorities. ETAP's 

deliberate environmental policy is firmly anchored in our mission. In the development of our products 

we focus on their high efficiency and low ecological impact. This commitment is reflected in our ISO 

14001 certification and the ETAP sustainability report. 

USE DETERMINES ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF EMERGENCY LIGHTING 

A detailed life cycle assessment of our emergency lighting luminaires shows that daily use accounts 

for over 95% of the total environmental impact. Daily use means not only the energy usage, but also 

the production and replacement of the battery and lamp. 

CADMIUM BAN 

Emergency lighting is one of the exceptions to the general European cadmuin ban, because no 

alternative battery technology was available at the time this European Directive was adopted. In the 

meantime, however, nickel metal hydride batteries (NiMH) have become a genuine alternative to nickel 

cadmuin batteries (NiCd) in emergency lighting. Not only are NiMH batteries cadmuim-free, they also 

use less energy and are 50 % more compact. 

ETAP emergency lighting with LEDs is always equipped with NiMH batteries. Now, ETAP has decided to 

also switch to NiMH batteries for its emergency lighting luminaires with fluorescent lamps, 

From now on, the fluorescent lamp versions of the following luminaires will only be available with 

NiMH batteries:

Smart Guidance is a system that guides large groups of people to their destination in an intelligent 

and intuitive manner. In emergencies, the system allows for faster evacuation, thanks to the dynamic 

lighting which indicates the route to be followed. In normal conditions, Smart Guidance guides people 

to their destination in a more orderly fashion.
