From aesthetics to compliance
Parquet and furniture coatings
27 – 28 November 2012
Coatings applied to wooden surfaces provide aesthetic aspects and surface
protection that ensures the maximum durability of the natural product.
Nevertheless, wood is a challenging substrate to be coated. One of
the challenges of furniture coatings is to combine aesthetics with environmental
requirements. Topics like appearance, resistance and VOC compliant
systems are dominating R&D activities for parquet coatings as well.
Five reasons to attend:
• High value – more than a dozen presentations from
industry, institutes and universities will give you a concise overview of
latest advances in coatings technology.
• Solid foundation – every conference offers an exclusive pre-conference
tutorial. Brush-up your know-how before the conference starts.
• Network – strengthen and extend your personal network, meet your
peers and clients in an informal atmosphere.
• Contribute – take part in the interactive focus workshops to discuss
specifi c topics with other experts.
• Exchange experiences – share best-practice knowledge and fi nd
solutions with your conference peers.
Connecting coatings technology professionals
Interactive focus workshops
The programme of every European Coatings CONFERENCE include one
hour of intense roundtable workshops, which are dedicated to specifi c
focus topics within the general conference theme and are moderated by
speakers of the conference. The focus workshops will effectively bring you
in contact with your international peers with a common specifi c interest,
maximizing your networking possibilities. The workshop topics of this
conference are:
Group 1: Waterbased vs. solventbased systems
Moderator: Dr. Maria Almató, Bayer MaterialScience, Spain
Group 2: Parquet and furniture coatings between aesthetics and
environmental constraints
Moderator: Dr. Gerhard Grüll, Holzforschung Austria, Austria
Group 3: Testing of parquet and furniture coatings
Moderator: Prof. Adrian Riegel, Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of
Applied Sciences, Germany
Group 4: UV technology for parquet and furniture coatings
Moderator: Dr Marion Noël, Bern University of Applied Sciences, Switzerland
Group 5: Renewable materials for parquet and furniture coatings
Moderator: Petra Lenz, Byk-Chemie, Germany

Pre-conference tutorial “Basics of parquet & furniture coatings”
Tuesday, 27 November 2012 | 8:30 -12:30 h
Modern parquet and furniture coatings not only have to exhibit high
mechanical and chemical resistance, but they need to withstand the
negative infl uences of daylight and preserve the aesthetic appeal of wood.
The concise pre-conference tutorial will familiarize you with these
challenging coating systems, including the choice of the right binders,
different coating technologies, tailor-made formulations, and the production
of high performance coating systems.
Lecturer: Ingrid Heußen, Evonik Industries, Germany
