Hopefully the 8 ½ months that you spent at European Film College helped you dig out your own
special talents, and the question now arises: how do I use them to achieve what I want?
Some of you will bring your talents into other areas than film, and the stay at EFC will be a fond
memory of a creative and playful time. But a lot of you, I’m sure, have realised that filmmaking is
the path you want to pursue, and you’re already placing the first stepping-stones on your way to
fulfilment.
The film industry is not the same as it was 5, even 3 years ago.
A new generAtion of filmmAkers is rising from the Ashes of the finAnciAl crisis, And
everything is chAnging
As the old business models are falling apart and the established production and distribution
companies are under severe pressure, new possibilities are occurring everywhere. HD consumer
hardware makes film making possible for almost everybody and new ways of distributing film
pop up in the shape of social media and other online opportunities.
As a part of the so-called Facebook generation you have the gift to manoeuvre in this landscape
better than anyone. And so you have the chance to not only take advantage of the radical change
of the film industry, but to BE that change – and thereby create your own future.
