time. The development of cartography, in<br />

which Gerard Mercator played a pivotal role,<br />

was in turn responsible for expanding the<br />

beeld van recent ontdekte gebieden, waaruit<br />

we vandaag kunnen afleiden hoe toen naar<br />

andere culturen gekeken werd. De<br />

Iris Van Herpen<br />

Iris van Herpen is one of today's most<br />

talked-about young designers. She was a<br />

trainee with Alexander McQueen and in 2007<br />

she launched her own label. Since that time<br />

she has had exhibitions in this country and<br />

abroad. She was awarded the Dutch Design<br />

Award and the Mercedes Benz Dutch Fashion<br />

Award in 2010. Iris van Herpen has acquired<br />

a great reputation for her eye-catching<br />

creations for which she combines traditional<br />

craftsmanship with detailed needlework and<br />

innovative techniques.<br />
