A A Christ Christ Caring Caring People People Who Who Gather Gather Around Around Word Word and and Sacrament,
Sacrament,
Yoked Yoked Together, Together, In In Personal Personal Service Service to to Christ in World Wide Wide Missions
Missions
And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” Luke 7:14b
As We Gather Can you imagine what it must have been like
to be in the funeral procession that day in Nain? Jesus interrupts
the processional as it passed through the gate of the town and
causes the pall bearers to come to a halt. Having compassion on
the widow following close by her son's casket, Jesus touches the
bier and says, "Young man, I say to you, arise" (Luke 7:14). With
that, the dead man sat up and began to speak! Utterly astonished,
all the mourners can do is to glorify God. As amazing as this
event is, even more remarkable is Jesus being raised from the
dead after three days in the grave. Jesus' resurrection means life eternal for the once dead young
man, his widow mother, you, and me. This Good News causes us to also glorify God and sing,
Jesus lives! The vict'ry's won! Death no longer can appall me;
Jesus lives! Death's reign is done! From the grave will Christ recall me.
Brighter scenes will then commence; This shall be my confidence. [LSB 490:1]
THE WELCOME AND OPENING PRAYER
If there are prayer concerns for you, your family, your friends, or your neighbors,
please put them on the blue information card. Our Board of Elders are prayerful
with our pastors about these joys and struggles of our earthly journey.
“The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” James 5:16b
THE INVOCATION Matthew 28:19b; [18:20]
P We begin our worship in the name of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy
Spirit. Amen.
C Praise the Lord!
P Shout hallelujah!
C Hallelujah!
P Shout hallelujah to our God!
C Hallelujah to Almighty God!
P Everyone come and praise God from the heavens, the mountaintops, the cities and the
valleys. Let everything that has life and breath praise the name of Almighty God. He set
the order of the universe in motion; He controls the weather and its time; all things in the
universe do His bidding, for He is God who created it—He spoke the word and there they
were! All who love the Lord, come and praise Him!
All: For His name alone is worthy to be praised. Hallelujah, praise the Lord!
THE CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
P Let us draw near to God and seek His forgiveness that comes to us through Jesus and His
death for us on the cross and His rising from the dead.
C Lord God, we confess that our hearts are not pure. We sin against you and against
one another. We sin by actions that are displeasing to You, things that are done and
left undone. We sin with our words and even with our
thoughts. We have no excuse. Our only hope is your
mercy. Forgive us, for Jesus’ sake. Amen.
All: For the sake of the innocent sufferings and death of
Your Son, Jesus Christ, forgive our sins, cleanse our
hearts and make us examples in all we say and do.
God’s Good News of Forgiveness:
P Jesus takes away the sin of the world. God’s steadfast love
holds true to this day. It will hold true forever. God’s
grace has been given to you through Christ Jesus. Through
Jesus, you have been cleansed of sin, and covered in His holiness. As a called and
ordained servant of Christ and by His Authority, I announce to you that your sins are
forgiven in the name of the Father, Son + and Holy Spirit.
C Amen.
Life Quotes “Traditional marriage … is ordained by God, one man and one woman. People say
if you look in the Old Testament, men had several wives. That was not God’s intent. He made a
beautiful design for the family. But Satan came in and began to get some things tangled up. It
took a very powerful and loving God to send His only begotten Son to shed His blood and to
correct that.” Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and pastoral associate and
director of African-American outreach for Priests for Life and Gospel of Life Ministries – A “Life
Quote” from Lutherans For Life · www.lutheransforlife.org
