And the LORD said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who is
bitten, when he sees it, shall live.” Numbers 21:8
AS WE GATHER The cross is not some incidental part of the story of
God's love for us. The cross IS the place where that love is revealed most
of all. The love of God cannot be told without the cross and where the
cross is raised up; God will draw all people unto Himself. As Jesus was
lifted up on the tree of the cross, so are we lifted up by that tree, raised up
from our death and sin through Christ's forgiveness. This is our glory and
comfort and this is the message that God has given to us to proclaim to the
world.
THE WELCOME AND OPENING PRAYER
If there are prayer concerns for you, your family, your friends, or your neighbors,
please put them on the blue information card. Our Board of Elders are prayerful with
our pastors about these joys and struggles of our earthly journey.
“The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” James 5:16b
OUR PASSOVER LAMB
*DIVINE SERVICE - SETTING THREE*
THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN “Beneath the Cross of Jesus”
(We cheerfully rise and sing)
Beneath the cross of Jesus I fain would take my stand,
The shadow of a mighty rock Within a weary land;
A home within the wilderness, A rest upon the way,
From the burning of the noontide heat, And the burden of the day.
1

Upon that cross of Jesus Mine eye at times can see
The very dying form of One Who suffered there for me;
And from my smitten heart with tears Two wonders I confess –
The wonders of his glorious love And my unworthiness.
I take, O cross, thy shadow For my abiding place;
I ask no other sunshine than The sunshine of His face;
Content to let the world go by, To know no gain or loss,
My sinful self my only shame, My glory all the cross.
THE INVOCATION
P In the name of the Father and of the † Son and of the Holy Spirit.
C Amen.
THE HOLY BAPTISM OF JERRICK ZANDER NICKERSON LSB 268 11:00
Dearest Jesus, Jerrick take, Shepherd take thy lamb and feed him,
Prince of Peace make here Thy throne, Way of life, to heaven lead him.
Precious Vine, let nothing sever, From Thy side this branch forever!
Lord, into Thy heart we pour, Prayers that from our hearts proceeded;
Our petitions heavenward soar; May our warm desires be heeded!
Write this name we now have given; Write it in the book of heaven.
THE CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
PP P P O almighty God, merciful Father,
C I, a poor, miserable sinner, confess unto You all my sins and iniquities with which I
have ever offended You and justly deserved Your temporal and eternal punishment.
But I am heartily sorry for them and sincerely repent of them, and I pray You of
Your boundless mercy and for the sake of the holy, innocent, bitter sufferings and
death of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to be gracious and merciful to me, a poor,
sinful being.
[We pause for silent confession to confess those specific sins, which may be troubling us
this day.]
PP P P Upon this your confession, I, by virtue of my office, as a called and ordained servant of
C
the Word, announce the grace of God unto all of you, and in the stead and by the
command of my Lord Jesus Christ I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father
and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. [John 20:19-23]
Amen.
THE KYRIE “Lamb of God, Pure and Holy” LSB 434 Verse 1
Lamb of God, pure and holy, Who on the cross didst suffer,
Ever patient and lowly, Thyself to scorn didst offer.
All sins Thou borest for us, Else had despair reigned o’er us:
Have mercy on us, O Jesus! O Jesus!
THE SALUTATION (Spoken)
P The Lord be with you.
C And also with you.
THE COLLECT
Every morning we see the signs of Your grace and mercy, O Lord. Every day You clothe, feed,
and protect us. Though we do not deserve Your kindness, You do not cease to show us Your
love. Help us to acknowledge Your kindness and look to the love revealed on the cross; through
Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God,
now and forever. Amen.
this is brand new. We will use this service for the Communion Services of Lent.
THE RECESSIONAL HYMN "May We Thy Precepts, Lord, Fulfill" LSB 698
Lenten Notes – The season of Lent is 40 days long excluding the Sundays “in”
Lent…This parallels the 40 days of temptation of Jesus in the wilderness…During
Lent the joyful alleluias and the cheerful Hymn of Praise is not generally
sung…the cross is draped to commemorate Christ’s death…the statue on
the Altar is from our 1938 church and will remain until the Sunday following the
Ascension…we generally do not place flowers on the Altar during Lent, which helps us
appreciate the bright fragrant blooms of the Easter morning lilies…Lent is a time to devote more
time to our devotions…Lent is a good time to give something up if it helps us focus on Christ’s
passion, suffering and death for our sins…Lent is also a good time to take something up, a new
discipline, more prayer, a project to help others… the Hymns tend to be minor key Hymns which
reflect the soberness of the Season;
may God richly bless your Lenten Journey.
Welcome to Faith Evangelical Lutheran on this Fourth Sunday in Lent! We are delighted to
Haiti As part of the recovery effort for Haiti, the LCMS in
partnership with the Haitian Lutheran Church has taken on a
model that not only provides housing, churches, and medical
care but also strives to build the faith community of our partner
church in Haiti.
Last Lent we provided funding for two homes and
through our LWML partial funding for a church in the
community of Beaudrouin.
Facilities in the three Lutheran Villages were dedicated in January of this year.
This Lent we intend to fund a third home in the community of Beaudrouin. The cost of
the two-bedroom home with a bathroom is $10,000.
How will we fund this home?
o We will designate all of our Wednesday evening offerings.
o We also encourage those who might miss a Wednesday to designate extra gifts for the
project on Sundays.
o We are 66% of our way toward our goal after our three Wednesday Lenten offerings of
$6, 672.77. Thank You!
When we hit the $10,000 mark all Midweek offerings will then go to the General Fund as
they normally would. If there are designated gifts that still come in, we will ask Synod
how they would be used, for there is also a need for community buildings such as
schools.
Forever Young This Wednesday, March 21 is Forever Young. It will
be our St. Patrick’s Day celebration. It is potluck. If you would like to
bring some corned beef and cabbage, that would be great! How many hot
dishes and salad will have green in them? We will see!
Palm Crosses On Friday, March 30 starting at 9:00 a.m. we need many,
many hands to put the Palm Crosses together for Palm Sunday. Pastor will
bring the doughnuts. See you on Friday, March 30 at 9:00 a.m.!
Coming in April The LWML will be making cards to share with the residents of Lincoln
Sunday Morning Adult Study – 9:45 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. “God’s Story – Your Story”
featuring video clips each Sunday by Max Lucado. This is a good heart-warming Bible study,
which will run for six consecutive Sundays. We will finish this study today.
Sunday Evening at Church This study meets at 6:30, is lead by Marv Schweigert, and they are
studying “Exodus, Part 2”.
Women’s Wednesday Morning Study Beginning the first Wednesday in April, April 4, there
will be a new Bible Study starting at 6:30 a.m. This study will be led by Freda Peters. They will
be studying Ruth. There are 11 lessons in this study. If you are an early riser, please join them for
this study.
Monday Afternoon Women’s Study 1:30 p.m. “Great Women of the Bible” is the title of
this study lead by Karen Lindbloom. In this study, participants will learn about many of the great
women that God shows us in His Word by studying their weaknesses and strengths, trials and
triumphs. Above all, participants will see God in His abundant grace as He forgives, sustains, and
inspires.
Wednesday Morning Men’s Study This group meets at 7:00 a.m. in the Young Conference
room and they are studying “Proverbs.” Proverbs seeks to teach us that the foundation of wisdom
is the fear of the Lord; seeks to teach us wise living through righteousness and justice; wants us to
learn wisdom in family life and how to relate wisely to all people; and wants us to recognize the
value of instruction, rebuke, advice, and discipline.
Food drive at Faith in March
Keep an eye out for specials at the grocery store, because
March is Faith's month to collect items for the Pierre-Ft.
Pierre Food Pantry. The need is particularly crucial this
year, as usage at the Pantry almost doubled in 2011. The
increase was due in part to expanded need during the
flooding last summer, but the agency continues to see higher numbers than usual. The Faith
