ANNUAL GIVING
FROM THE DIRECTOR
Dear MacMurray Family,
I think it is safe to say that I am no
longer the new kid on the block.
I have celebrated a marvelous
MacMurray Homecoming, endured
two blustery Jacksonville winters,
enjoyed two beautiful Alumnae
Weekends, and met countless
alumni and friends of the College.
The more time I spend on campus
and the more of the MacMurray family I
meet, the more stories I hear, engaging stories from
people whose lives were transformed at MacMurray
College. There are many stories of men and women
who very genuinely feel that the time they spent at Mac
significantly aided in molding them into who they are
today.
The College appreciates and is so very grateful to those
who choose to pay it forward. Through regular giving
individuals and families provide future generations of
MacMurray students with the same comprehensive liberal
arts education that served as their foundation. I am
pleased to share a story about two such alums and hope
that you both enjoy and are inspired by the Fenders.
Wishing you a summer of much happiness and good
health.
Very sincerely,
Bridget M. Dhom
Moment
Alumni couple gives back to college and community
Serving is a family affair for the Fenders. MacMurray
College alums, mike ’83 and Beth Gallegly ’91 fender,
along with their three children - Micah, Jonah and Anna
- are active members of their community, serving their
church, local non-profit organizations and community
schools. All this would keep any family on the move, but
the Fenders do not stop there.
Since returning to Jacksonville, Ill., when Mike was
appointed to serve as pastor of Grace United Methodist
Church, Mike and Beth have greatly increased their gifts to
Mac. For years, they have actively served their alma mater
in a multitude of ways, giving of time, talent and treasure.
“Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can.”
Mike is currently serving as a member of
the MacMurray College Alumni
Association Board, a position
that he has served in previously,
assisting with Homecoming and
Alumnae Weekend events,
alumni gatherings and award
recognition presentations.
As a family, the Fenders
have graciously hosted the
Livewire Caller Celebration
Dinner for the past two
years. They have warmly and
personally thanked the Mac
student participants for their
hard work fundraising for the
College by opening up their
church home and cooking a
celebratory feast.
- John Wesley,
founder of the Methodist Church
In addition to these strong showings of support, the
Fenders have made a unique financial commitment to the
College. In 2006, Mike and Beth desired to reaffirm their
commitment to Mac and increase their monetary gifts by
setting up a sustaining gift. They took just a few minutes
of their time to get in touch with the Office of Institutional
Advancement and created a plan that provides a
continuous stream of support to MacMurray. They choose
to give to the general operating fund through automatic,
electronic transfers. Without so much as writing a check
or even pressing a button, every month they personally
help cover the cost of student scholarships, academic
programming, campus maintenance, staff and faculty
salaries, athletics and student recreation, and so much
more.
While their journey as a couple began at MacMurray
College, Mike and Beth Fender have gone on to obtain
advanced degrees and build successful careers that they
believe in, all while raising three children. They credit
MacMurray as the platform on which much of this success
was built and feel that just giving acknowledgement is
not enough. The Fenders, as a family, have committed
themselves to ensuring that future generations have the
opportunity to be profoundly influenced by their beloved
alma mater, MacMurray College.
