IrelandGenWebsite
has a wonderful array of subjects relating to
genealogy as well as links to other resources
not found on the website.
Volunteers have transcribed many records.
Information that can be accessed from
the website include censuses and census
substitutes,taxation sources,church records,
monumental inscriptions, directories, and
court records. One of the more obscure
records is the Cormack Petition which
lists the names and townlands of residence
for people who signed a petition to set up
an inquiry into the conviction of brothers
William and Daniel Cormack. These men
were executed in 1858 for murdering a land
agent. Over 2,300 people signed the petition
making this a remarkable census substitute.
Although this information is also accessible
at the Tipperary Libraries website, it does
not mention the place of residence.Like most
genealogical websites, this one continues to
be a work in progress thanks to the efforts
of dedicated volunteers.
Google Books: County Tipperary
Petty Jurors
Another genealogical resource that is not
found in the Tipperary County Library or
in the Tipperary GenWeb Project is the
list of County Tipperary Petty [Session]
Jurors for the spring and summer Assizes
of 1845 and the spring Assizes of 1846. I
came across this source several years ago
while exploring the British Parliamentary
Papers/House of Common Papers. The
list of close to 4,000 individuals is arranged
by baronies in the first group and by
ridings in the second. The names of jurors
that are arranged by baronies are listed in
alphabetical order. Also recorded is the
place of residence, the occupation or calling
(e.g. esquire), and the qualification of each
juror (freeholder, leaseholder, merchant,
freeman or householder). The riding list
Irish Genealogical Society International
includes the residence and occupation or
calling of each juror.
This resource is found in Volume 42 (XLII)
of the 22 January – 28 August 1846 session.
To find this volume online, do a keyword
search from the Google home page for Co.
Tipperary petty jurors. It is found in the
Google Books website. Once the volume has
been accessed, use the view ruler bar on the
right hand side of the page to scroll down
approximately two thirds of the page length.
The page number system does not make
sense since there are multiple resources
in this session. However, the section
covering the County Tipperary Petty Jurors
consistently shows the number 393 on the
bottom left hand side of every other page.
If you have County Tipperary ancestry, it is
hoped that the resources listed in this article
will prove helpful in your research.
Launch of IGSI’s
New Website
Mid-April is the launch of our new website.
Technology changed from the time we
created our old site that prompted us to
update our databases and programing
language. We believe this change will
prevent the errors the old site had.
The new site looks slightly different but
holds the information from the old one.
Hopefully you will find a few surprises as
well. We added a new benefit called the
Searchable Pedigree Charts. This section
will allow members to search pedigree
charts to find clues to their ancestors. You
will find this new section under the‘projects
menu’.
Another new section to the site is the
Donation Projects you will find under the
‘projects menu’ as well. This will allow
members to donate to items needed by
IGSI.
The Calendar located under the ‘activities
menu’ will allow our members to send in
their reunions and local Irish activities for
others to find on our site. Be sure to let us
know what is going on in your area.
The Education menu offers items for
old and new researchers. Besides the
upcoming classes offered at the Minnesota
Genealogical Library it offers how start
your research and where to find special
collections of information.
In the last year or so we have had problems
with our old website that led us to starting
a new site. This should help with future
problems. If you haven’t been to our new
website be sure to check it out. We are
always adding and updating the site. so
there is more to come.
New site, old address. Go to .
