Speakers and Topics
DavidE.Rencher,ChiefGenealogicalOfficer
world, is arguably North America’s leading
expert in the genealogy of the British Isles.
He has traced his family’s roots from the
United States back to Ireland and Scotland.
Rencher says that genealogy and family
history give people a “sense of identity, who
they are and where they came from.”
Join us for a dessert reception on Friday
evening with David Rencher. His topic
will be “The Sun Never Sets on the Data
Empire.” At plenary sessions on Saturday
Rencher addresses “Framing the Problem
Irish Genealogical Society International
for Overseas Research” and “Interpreting
and Evaluating Name Lists.”
The Saturday breakout sessions include
talks by Minnesota genealogists and
researchers, including some of our favorite
Irish class instructors.Tom Rice will provide
three lectures on Scottish genealogical
resources; Beth Mullinax will offer basic
Irish research while Mary Wickersham and
Sheila Northrop will share favorite Irish
genealogy websites. Lois Mackin and Jay
Fonkert will offer sessions on researching
English ancestors; Alice Eichholz will
provide a session on migration patterns
from New England; John Schade will speak
on researching Canadian fur traders; and
Kay Gavin will speak on Welsh ancestry.
This is your chance to get some background
on ancestors who may be of Irish, English,
Scottish or Welsh ancestry.
So much information available in one
place on one weekend! And there’s a bonus
opportunity to join a bus tour of Lakewood
