I was a virgin Young, beautiful school girl I had my parents I was natured well We used to sleep in our traditional homes Not the cities of IDP Camps. The IDP Camps with poverty, disease and death as its only exit I used not to go hungry I was clothed well I had love given. But now I am suffering. Like an abandoned African Pot. Am abused Am stigmatised Am left to suffer My life’s now hopeless Filled up with sexual exploitations’ And now am very weak Emaciated My mosquito leg can’t move me My sunken eyes can’t see the sun, My head like a drum stick, beating the drum hard as sorrow fills the entire village No companionship No shelter Nothing at all to wet my lips My dry tongues searches in vain. Yet others dine with their puppies on the same table Just very hopeless life I live in my old mama patchy thatches All surroundings so dump My immediate neighbour the African toads The giant African toads that leave under my grandees’ old pot It kisses my cheek on the same floor It croaks and despises me. Croak, croak Why again scream. Wake up! This leaves my anger like an angry cobra. I lament, I am helpless It wasn’t my choice Neither my parents chose it. It wasn’t my choice…I cry All those to care for me perished Now I leave like a bustard A real street girl Others nick-named me prostitute Sir name ‘Apoli’ and many technically brushed me off as de-tooters. Tears roll over my wrinkled scaly face. Oh, no! My belly flap rest on the scattered papyrus mat, the only left animal skins my neighbour’s dog grabbed it. I now sleep barely on ground I yelled all night with insect stings mostly that of ‘Cukulung’ stung. Again my grumbling stomach could provoke the giant African toad. I had no choice I had to loose my virginity for my survival Some men convinced me Those I respected as my late father They betrayed me They broke my virginity in turns of their money to sustain my life Days and night They sucked my mouth with alcohol-cigar mix, very offensive smell. And there giant’s hands rub my youthful face without mercy. My mushrooming nipple is pressed hard for that it’s never to develop but left shrink only. Yes they did me, some are like you I sold my body for survival. And now I am a victim. I have AIDS. I have HIV /AIDS Eeeeh…...eeeeh! It wasn’t my choice. It wasn’t my choice… I am now wasted The world has dictated upon my life. Don’t despise me Don’t neglect me Don’t segregate me Don’t laugh at me Don’t wait for help Help when most needed. Help those who are elsewhere in the world not to be like me. Stop being greedy Stop the injustice in the world Oh no, I cry out help.
